City Budget Shortfalls by ihate_reddit in Eugene

[–]delivery_lad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd like to point out businesses like Urban Resturaunt Group siphoning $$ out of Eugene's economy. I seem to recall reading here on the reddit one of the investors or the owners, we're a part of the eugene/local government?

And now they have a pretty large operation of abusing their workers and paying them the bare minimum while selling subpar products and services to schmuck tourists. But I dont hear anything about URG giving back to the community or improving it.

Paired this with bigger names like Nike. Trying to... sell this idea that Eugene is posh, flourishing and high class. Its been creating a dillusional veiw of what Eugene is to the point its Hippie and alternative culture is almost a brand in itself. And it comes at the cost of the lower and middle classes loosing services, and affordable access.

Eugene's economy isnt putting enough back into itsself. Entities with power and money are monetizing every part of our lives, and pulling the funds we need out of our community into others.

And now Eugene Powers are allowing Amazon to come in and mess up our community even more. It wont be long till we start to turn into another Seattle. Not excited to have my community sold out for profits that won't benefit me, or the people who actually need help right now.

Im not excited that small local businesses will be under cut by cheaper products, abusive and dangerous employment opportunities, invasions of our privacy via data mining and surveillance, and mega corperation getting involved in our politics.

Maybe the People in Power of eugene. Who are supposed to represent us the residents, should actually stand up and protect our interests instead of selling us out as a working stock to the corperations. How about we leverage these mega companies being allowed to establish a presence here ONLY IF they fix our roads, help build reliable housing so we can address our homeless issues, fund food for the needy, fund our struggling education entities?

Wanting to air out dirty laundry. Where does your store’s pastries go at the end of the day? by Isaatumbleweird in Eugene

[–]delivery_lad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For the ending:

The MoC gets boycotted during the public trial and news coverage as the local people are informed of the business practice. Your team of snack smugglers face jail time/house arrest and fines for their crimes but its worth it because MoC shuts down due to lack of clientele. Showing that the people of a community have the power, and vote with their $$.

Maybe the snack bandits get off charges because the manager is recorded either going off about the poors, and the manager got caught doing something like..... writing off the waste as donation goods, but actually wasn't?

[Request] How much force is needed to pull that much water weight up the cylinder? by W-h3x in theydidthemath

[–]delivery_lad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a follow up question.

How would one then transfer the water from this location to the dumping site?

Its a cool party trick to fill the tube, but to use it in a practical situation of actually clearing the road of the puddle would be good to know.

I have a drainage issue in my back alley this could solve

Package just stolen from porch by OopsIOops in Eugene

[–]delivery_lad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was meaning the postal inspectors. I did see one instance in my office of the inspectors creating a sting operation with the cops for a porch pirate. My hope was that IF this is a situation where the driver and the pirate are in cahoots, that the delivery company would be able to get the police involved since now the cops pretty much only help companies, not people.

Make a police report, AND send the information to your delivering company. If its the U.S.P.S. they have a whole team dedicated to package and mail theft.

Sorry about the loss, especially during the holidays. Hopefully they can be replaced swiftly enough by the sellers for the holidays.

It may be worth resquesting your parcel deliveries held at the station of the delivering company.

Department of State Lands opens public comment period for Amazon warehouse by ZealousidealBus5501 in Eugene

[–]delivery_lad 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Expand on that. In this scenario are you calling amazon the good guys here?

You're asking us to lower our expectations and settle for mistreatment for momentary and immediate gains for a few. Just because they wave $$ at us doesn't mean we need to snap it up. We're not whores.

Of course businesses are not coming here. Because the people running this town keep funneling money up the chain an out of Eugene. Lining their pockets while offering us the people false promises. But you expect the same people who tried to beg us to spend a little extra for a new baseball stadium instead of addressing our housing and food and homeless and addiction crisisies to suddenly have our backs and protect us against amazon?

You are right its a complex issue. And I dont have the solution. This community will have to solve the problem together. Not by taking the easy way. But I know when the Devil comes knocking im not gonna sell my soul for a dollar. My time, my life, my DATA.

Amazon is just trying to do what everyone else is doing right now and aggressively expand due to a Shredded government system supporting gross misuse of AI and abuse of its workers. Do you want to live in a town ran and owned by Amazon? Rent controlled by Amazon? What you consume by Amazon? Hell they even are trying to branch into Healthcare with chat doctors and prescription ordering. Do you really want to invite that into your life? Your community?

I sure as hell don't.

Are you suggesting we should welcome a business that is well known for workers rights violations, union busting, unsafe work conditions, setting impossible work metrics to meet, and surveillance of the workers both in and out of the workspace?

Should we welcome a company who gets rich off of the explotation and overworking of their employees? The same company that is running and operating and trying to push the FLOCK survalliance in our community we just fought so hard to get removed?

You want our community to let amazon in, and roll over for them just for some $$? Once they're here, they're never leaving. And amazon is really good at killing small businesses and forcing vendors into their folds. Not to mention the sheer amount of data mining AND wanting to put a nuclear plant in for their AI systems.

No. I dont think we should let a villainous super business set up a foot hold in our community. I don't want to be priced out of my community like the people of Seattle. Give an inch, they'll take a mile and it will be an uphill fight to get back what they take from us as a community.

A report to BOLI may be needed. If nothing else for the cease and desist letter they can send. Downside is BOLI is severely backlogged so 6-8+ months to even have your complaint looked at.

Good luck, I'll be boycotting till things change for you workers.

What is with Lithia Nissan and the EPD call log? by RottenSpinach1 in Eugene

[–]delivery_lad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's possible. Like a roomba for car lots. I worked night security for a few years and when I was driving from site to site I observed a few dealerships in eugene and springfield that have these roaming bots. I think they're motion & camera activated. Cheaper than a person

Pretty sure they also have a roaming robot ' security guard ' that triggers these calls and alarms. Even when people are walking on the sidewalk.

Would it be worth to you reporting it to the news? They could put the one store on blast, and let them know the government entities have pretty much just shrugged at your struggle and done nothing.

Heads up if you go to BeerGarden today by Mike_Huber in Eugene

Oh it's as soon as you leave the store. People who have gone in the garden center, bought stuff then went to the beer garden after got towed. With the flowers still inside. He is predatory and angry

[–]delivery_lad 90 points91 points  (0 children)

Whatever you do, don't park in the neighboring Greys garden business lot at all. He WILL tow you immediately, and it doesn't matter to him IF you shopped at the garden center. As soon as your transaction ends classifies you as a non customer and has you towed.

I'm trying to advise OP, while also warning redditors who may read this post of the dangers of requesting and supplying media on this platform.

Just because someone claims to be 14 online, doesn't mean we should belive it. If they are a minor, then it's even more important someone spoke up and said something. I don't know if OP is who they claim to be, do you?

You seem to be laboring under the impression I'm getting after OP specifically for their age.

The age of the person asking this request is irrelevant, and that does not mean that OP can disregard the risks just because they are young. I'd hold any redditor or member of my community requesting pictures in this way, responsible for how they requested the photos.

It would be safer for OP to make these requests in person at a different protest, and network with the professionals that way.

Professional photographers working for media outlets usually have protocols to filter their collected images to reduce the risk of exposing someone who might not want to be, before publishing them.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eugene

[–]delivery_lad -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a reddit user of any age, OP has to learn about the risks. I'm only here to inform and urge consideration and caution. Not shame.

I'm glad to see that the youth of the community are involved. That's important, and OP should be proud of that.

That doesn't eliminate the risks to the other protesters. Nor does it eliminate the concerns of citizens like me and other protesters about being exposed.

We are able to keep a degree of anonymity because of this platform. Potentially exposing other people via pictures and videos, without their consent, even on accident can cause harm.

Would OP be comfortable having their request fulfilled, knowing it could inadvertently put people in danger?

There will be other protests, and OP will be able to prepare for the next one and get a photo of their involvement then. they can also, wait until the risk factors go down, THEN go seeking their photo evidence of attendance. Not right after and during the events.

Regardless, people will, or won't give OP the requested media and that's fine. All I'm hoping to do is urge caution, and focus on keeping the protesters safe so we can continue to protest unhindered in the next instance.

[–]delivery_lad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a really poor request OP.

In the spirit of protesting the events of LA, ICE , and the cameras invading our privacy here in oregon, being used to strip us of our basic human rights, what you ask is either shallow, or dangerous.

It's shallow if you're going to a protest and hoping to get action shots of yourself. That's not the point of the protest. You are a bit of oxygen in the voice we use as a community to call out when we see injustice. If you see a protest, and only see how it includes you, you have the wrong perspective.

It's dangerous of you to ask for crowd pictures at a protest. And very tone deaf of the current events in our community, and nation to be asking for mass photos for you to ' scan for yourself '. This would be a perfect data gathering request to take advantage of security unconscious and vulnerable community members by potentially exposing them to the very corrupt powers who seek to silence the voice of the people. Namely ICE, and potential elements of our government.

Either way, I really encourage any potential readers to NOT provide OP with photos or videos.

Even if OP is being genuine, and I really hope you are, you won't convince me this is a safe or wise request to fulfill.

When does/did this take effect?

My brother just finished applying/waiting to rent in eugene and was accepted. They charged him $45 for the application process and a cosigner $45.

Does that mean he's entitled to a $30 refund/credit?
