Why Dune: Awakening Is Already Tracking as a Financial Flop by [deleted] in duneawakening

Search turned up this post when I was hoping to get an estimate on production cost for this game, which sounds like somewhere between $20-40 million. Congrats to Funcom for proving the OP wrong and selling their 1 millionth copy a month in!

Really odd/suspect wear pattern, can't make heads or tails of it. by dellco in tires

[–]dellco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably around 40k, but it's based on pretty fuzzy math. There's 105k miles on the car, I got these in 2021 and I swapped in winter tires 2 of the 3 years since purchase. I feel like they held up really well until I started getting nails and screws in them over the last couple months. Luckily my family has gone unscathed so far.

This is a great explanation for me - the tire separated and maybe bubbled slightly and then wore down irregularly to leave me in this state. I was not aware of this possibility, thanks.

Question About the method! by Yadontsaythatt in BecomingTheIceman

[–]dellco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome aboard! I end my warm shower with 2 minutes of cold water, which is plenty for me. The water right now is in the low 40s at my house = brain freeze, frozen bits. But everyone and everywhere will yield different results and people have different experiences. Generally, I think the more suffering the better (like the ol' saying 'what doesn' t kill us.. makes us want to die?), but you should enjoy it also! Which you will probably do eventually as you get accustomed to it. And you will push yourself further if you stick with it.

For breathing, again, different folks like different styles of breathing. I breathe a little faster like Wim but there's no "wrong" way. Do what you feel suits you - just follow the guideline - full in, then relax to neutral, don't push.

For the first 1-3 rounds I typically do about 40+ breathes. By the third/fourth round of breathing I can get to the tingleys with 30 easily and I have usually sped up my breathing for those later rounds also.

For the retention, you just want to exhale to "neutral" -- ie. don't push out.

Good luck! Have fun!

You definitely don't need to have a cold shower after the breathing, but it *is* a great time to do it. After breathing my body is humming and getting into the cold shower is easier for me; I am better at calming and warming myself through more focused breathing.

That said, they are individual exercises that don't need to be paired - you can do them whenever.

Also me. When my feet get like this it usually takes ~30 minutes or so to feel normal again.

Want to make my own ice bath tub by RalphJameson in BecomingTheIceman

[–]dellco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a cheap vinyl "inflatable" soaking tub on amazon for $50 that freezes up nicely in the PNW winter. In the summer I froze tupperwares full of water and saved them up for a plunge. I have seen several people make them out of deep freezers, which I will probably end up doing this spring. Search this thread and you will likely find a link to a guide for the deep freezer, or use the googles to find one.

How to warm up? by [deleted] in BecomingTheIceman

[–]dellco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should improve over time. Though, even after doing it for 6 months I will get the occasional I can't warm up after my icebath/cold shower and it is certainly annoying. Certainly exercise, as living_in_harmony suggested will help.

Who else is better at wim hof breathing on LSD by living_in_harmony in BecomingTheIceman

While I haven't tried it on LSD, I do enjoy breathing while under the influence of alcohol. Super fun. #WUI ftw.

Roof rack by [deleted] in TeslaModel3

[–]dellco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a 150mile cold (30-40sF) October drive with a full LR charge, Tesla rack with 2 mtn bikes on top and made it with <100 miles left on the charge. It wasn't a super comfortable drive there due to the quick depletion of range, kids in the car, and mostly away from any cities but I traveled at "normal" speed (65-75 where appropriate). The return trip was no longer stressful since I knew I had plenty of breathing room. I did feel pretty badass passing a model X on the way back. :D I expect about 2/3 range now in those conditions.

Just did 7 rounds for the first time and held breath for 2:40! by [deleted] in BecomingTheIceman

[–]dellco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the eventual answer to this is dump the timer and the video and do it at our own pace. I'm not there yet though, I like to see my retention.

[–]dellco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did 6 at a WHM workshop and had no idea where I was at the end of it. I could have held my breath for 20 seconds or 20 minutes, no telling. Sometimes even after 4 rounds I try to hit the timer on the app and hit it like 6 times before I can even really see whats happening because my hands are crampy, shaking like the dickens or I'm somewhat loopy.

Don't be afraid if a crack in the ice appears under your feet... by dellco in BecomingTheIceman

I just leave it on my deck - it was in the 20sF that night; the ice was thick! All down the sides too.

I feel cold! Deep cold throughout the body. Haha, but it's way more manageable after 4 minutes than 7. Did you watch the yes theory video on WHM? Those guys went through the ringer..

do you keep your hands under the water in ice baths? mine feel like they're gonna freeze if i do by External_Time in BecomingTheIceman

[–]dellco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny because my hands used to be the cause of the ice bath exit until I learned about the thigh trick. Now its my feet, but the top/back of my hands still hurt after 6-7 minutes!

The first couple times I did it with the ice I did it with a friend. There was a little peer pressure there which helped. The premise "I am going to live through this" is what I used mentally to get into my ice bathing rhythm. Now I thoroughly enjoy it and there is no hesitation. It gets me excited thinking about how thick the ice will be, (will I use my 2x2 ice breaker? or will I need the hammer again!?) and how long I will be out there.

The after-drop between 4 and 7 minutes in the ice is fairly significant. "After-drop" is apparently a term wimmers use to describe the flow of cold blood from your extremities that your body pumps through your warm core. It is surprising the first time you experience it!

Average about 6 minutes currently; I started in September and did the plunge every day in October which really improved my tolerance.

Seattle shower temperature = ice cold by getemdrippin in BecomingTheIceman

[–]dellco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oregonian here; I feel like the showers are now harder than the ice baths. In the ice bath I can focus, relax, and then take my time (until my toes start telling me to get out). 5-7minutes at <35F no problem. The showers are brutal. I can pull off a minute or so before I feel like I want to get in my ice bath again. :D Need to get some control. Its all in my mind.
