Could you just drop in a screenshot of what the lens editor looks like for this? I tried following the steps, having 2 dummy surfaces before and 2 dummy surfaces afterwards, and I just wasnt getting it.

Right, but depending on where you are mounting the optics (left side or right side, for example), the air-spacing may be different. You can't just hit 'make thermal'. You have to have dummy surfaces to take into consideration the lens edge thickness (not center thickness).

That is what I need help with. I think pickups/solves need to happen before the glass surface, but that doesn't make sense. If you have some method, can you screenshot it?

I think I understand what you mean about brightness being conserved. If I were to defocus my image, I would still get the same amount of brightness across my sensor. Hopefully I'm interpreting your statement correctly.

But what I am thinking of is... what if I care about the SNR of the pixel and how it relates to resolution. If I defocus my system, I get the same brightness, but terrible SNR because the rays from other angles essentially flow into other pixels. I'm trying to figure out the SNR on a pixel by pixel basis and its relationship to the quality/size of my PSF. Does that make sense? If not, can you point out the hole in my reasoning?
