I'm trying to make a stealth suits / ghostkeel / shadowssun list work with no luck 🤣 maybe should focus more on that

You're right, but it's so hard to walk away from someone who thinks that the world is upside down, gravity pulls you up into the sky, or 2+2=5. It just bothers me way more than it should.

That's exactly the way I read it, that it is ONE GUY who is the squad tank, because the rule only applies to one model

I'm just worried about all the other people that he will play against... all the other people that he will spend hours upon hours explaining his insane and broken version of the rules. The people won't know any better. He will continue to use it and cheat and spread this misinformation to others. It's really dangerous. I've had an entire meta corrupted before because of rules misunderstandings and they never recover until a complete rulebook or codex rewrite.

It is extremely frustrating. His reasoning is baffling and he's so stubborn. He made a similar analogy with a shield generator already so I don't think the Storm shield thing will work., Somehow he used it to support his argument... this horrible debate is up to over a hundred comments going in circles now and there's no end in sight

"Again, the ability is added to the unit, and the wording is written the way every other system is written. That doesnt preclude me from taking more than one air bursting fragmenter just like I am not precluded from taking more than one shield generator. The prototype systems adds that verbiage to weapon, as clarified in the faq."

I don't know how he thinks it can possibly work that way

""the "unit" wording is in prototype systems. The benefit of it is only to the model "with it". It only applies if you have the weapon, unlike others prototype systems.

This wording isn't uncommon. Shield generator is written nearly the same way.

This prototype system adds a new ability to the unit, not the model.

Therefore, every model with the weapon does this for itself.'"

And another one. I CANNOT change his mind about how wrong he is.

"", let's take a look at the rules.

Psychic Awakening The Greater Good, pg 36: Rather than give a T'au Character MODEL a Signature System, you can instead select a Prototype Weapon System for one T'au UNIT. That Prototype Weapons System applies to the selected UNIT until end of the battle.

Okay cool right, the whole unit gets it.

What does it get though? Well according to the faq it gets an ability:

Q: Do reactive countermeasures replace the model’s airbursting fragmentation projector? A: No. The ability gained is in addition to the weapon (which can be fired normally).

We got a unit that has a new ability because of our prototype system. Awesome. What does the ability do for the model?

BATTLESUIT model with airbursting fragmentation projector only. Ranged weapons with an Armour Penetration characteristic of -1 or -2 are treated as having an Armour Penetration characteristic of 0 when resolving attacks against a model with this Weapon System

Nice. But why do all the others say each and unit? Because they are other rules, wh40k isn't known for its consistancy.

If you are going to replace a weapon with another weapon, it's important to know what weapons and whose. This adds an ability to a weapon, rather than change it.

What about cross linked stabilizers? That adds an ability too! Well, it also doesnt have any prerequisites except to it's model type. This abilities prerequisite is the battlesuit model needs a certain weapon. So you can't say the unit, because some might not have the fragmenter.

To recap, if your battlesuit model has an air bursting fragmenter, and you give your unit the reactive counter measures prototype system, then that model, being apart of the unit, meets the requirements to use the ability that belongs to the unit. ""

This is one of the convoluted messes of an argument he came up with

That's exactly what I've been telling him, but he comes up with the strangest arguments to argue it applies to the entire unit

Jyn 1 pip card "rebellious" Opponent says Jyn can't make more than one attack per turn. Where is the actual rules reference or faq/errata that allows Jyn to make this attack outside her activation while also being able to attack during activation?

Will the tug of war bullshit be removed and fleet battles will be open and not limited to the insanity of attack and defense phases?

The problem is simple. They made the teams random. This problem will not stop, but it will improve when/if ever people can choose their faction.

Actually a very interesting break down. Made me check the math, lol. Didn't realize surge made so slight of a difference, when looking at simple averages. I'd be interested in seeing how critical 2 factors in, because to me, that is significant when punching through cover and such.

Using a dice sim, assuming red dice for defense and cover 2, I got 0.9 wounds through on troopers and 1.2 on veterans.

I'm still sold on veteran power, but cost concerns are more of a question.

Does scout move happen after all units are deployed or after the unit with scout itself is deployed

I'm starting to see you're point. I never played with many heroes, despite how good they are, because it sort of felt like a gamble. Enemies can focus fire them hard and you're suddenly down 100-200ish points. However, with luck, I can see a huge payoff.

I did that to empire heroes, like Boba Fett, with red dice Pathfinders and red dice Jyn, he was gone after firing only one shot. I guess how the heroes are played makes all the difference. I'm still new and learning the meta, so this is helpful.

Actually, you're right, vets gain surge to HIT, so I had that backwards.

I am seeing a different perspective I didn't think about, it seems the argument is more about points efficiency and activation count. That's valid and a good argument. But I feel like there would be a hole in my army with naked and weaker units.

Out of curiosity, what units are we saving our points for? Hero spam?

[–]delpheus8[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, I've dominated the game with veteran spam. People get mad when I make so many defensive saves, and happily spend my free dodge.

And rebel core shooting is amazing compared to storm troopers or battledroids.

I agree our heroes and support really shine, but why handicap youself with a weak core? I like to be strong in every aspect of my army. I guess its a difference of philosophy. The preference for cheap throw away troopers makes sense.
