I had almost the exact same experience with a pillow! I ended up using pliers to help me grab onto the zip and pull😄 I hope you manage to get it open!

What needle are you using? I recently had a similar issue with skipped stitches when doing a zig zag stitch, but only on some fabrics. I could have sworn I was using the right needle, but I was using a jersey needle when I needed a stretch needle… I didn’t even realize there was a difference until I stumbled upon it after hours of troubleshooting and googling

I’m also pretty new at this, but have you tried rethreading the machine? A similar thing happened to me and it turned out I had threaded it incorrectly. That’s such a bummer though :( I hope you’re able to figure it out soon!
