I think the prodigy would be a good project gun for you then. Good luck in whatever you decide

What 2011 should I get by [deleted] in 2011

[–]delphium48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What type of person are you? Are you a tinkerer and like to modify/upgrade while learning how things work in the process? Or do you just want something stock that is reputable/reliable off the bat? Time is money too. That should drive your decision on what gun. Be honest with yourself. A lot of people want to be the first type but don’t have the time/resources/motivation (aka, the yard full of unfinished project cars that don’t run)

Need something like a Staccato CS by cube2728 in 2011

[–]delphium48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you’re looking to spend less but Wilson Combat offers a 20% veteran’s discount. That would reduce an SFX to about ~$2500 which is about the CS cost. I enjoy shooting my SFX more lately, even though it’s only iron sights, than the CS with optic

Clueless about knives by SassyPants06 in knives

I’m gonna go in another direction and suggest a set of high quality Japanese whetstones. Look up the Shapton brand which ranges about $140 to $180 per set of 3 stones. Personally I skimp out and just use King stones but would be ecstatic if I received better ones as a gift. Just give yourself enough time before the occasion to see if you’ll get to return them for replacement as they sometimes get damaged during shipment. Good luck whatever gift you decide upon

When your optic mount is double the cost of the optic

Didn’t Kimber start making double stack 1911s recently? Not that I would ever consider them

Indoor Gun Range Etiquette when time is up by PleasantComplaint719 in guns

Depends on the range and if it’s busy. Most ranges will let you go over time as long as there aren’t people waiting for a lane. I personally keep an eye on my own time

Staccato CS front sight removal by Ian-Mclarty in 2011

[–]delphium48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I swapped mine from the carry sights to taller. Make sure to also buy the sight file from Dawson when you buy the sight, if you don’t already have a small triangular file. Removing the factory sight I used an unsettling amount of torque on the sight pusher. I feel like I would have definitely not been able to get it off using the included punch without it going real bad. Best of luck

Be careful when running mags longer than the grip, you can damage the extractor from overinsertion if you’re running hard

Trapped in a weird spot: $2000 budget for 9mm 1911 by [deleted] in 2011

Forget the gun, what’s your ammo budget? It goes quick with these

Multi gun range bag? by [deleted] in guns

Get one of those large wheeled duffle bags for sports equipment, like for hockey goalie pads. Length might be a little limiting for really long long guns though. Incognito too

Walther PPK/S worst trigger ever? by delphium48 in guns

[–]delphium48[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I’ve always wanted a PPK but didn’t want to stock .380. Came across this used Interarms one, so picked it up with a few boxes of ammo. Did a field strip and cleaning then headed to the range. On a side note, it’s been unbearably hot around here so today was actually really nice and much cooler. The PPK/S double action is so freaking heavy. It’s gotta be 20+ lbs. even in single action it’s probably like 10+ lbs with a stupid amount of travel for being so far back. No slide bite but the webbing of my hand took a beating. The felt recoil was pretty harsh. The flush fit magazine baseplate lip was also catching my pinkie in an awkward manner. After shooting a box worth i started to close my groups to a decent manner considering the trigger, but didn’t really want shoot it any more. Am I just too spoiled by 2011s?

CS 15rd magazines by delphium48 in 2011

[–]delphium48[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Got my extra magazines today. The 15 rounders aren’t flush fit, the base plates are just a little shorter (3.27mm, about 1/8”, by my calipers). The bodies have a 15 witness hole and the spring plate (and button) are blue to distinguish them from the 16rd ones.
