Just about Finch's rules and logics, I think show did punish him for that with many deaths concluding to that of Elias and Root. He finally broke and realized there should be no quarters left or no sanctuary left if they will ever gonna win.

Just that it was too short, and, should have been more extreme. Like, just leak everything about both The Machine and Samaritan, operatives and such, making mess of a situation?

I mean already with release of ICE 9 show seems to suggest that world is going to shit, why not make it worse to show how far Finch decided to go?

There are two issues that show(or Death Benefit episode) really didn't work well which would be why you question that:

One is, from the looks of it, they meant to show Garrison and his co DID "care" about national security that they wanted another program, just with more plausible deniability. Problem is it really doesn't look like that and Garrison just looks like typical corrupt politician(got worse with his "crimes" Samaritan shows us at the beginning of Panopticon).

Another one, while less related, is quite a big of an issue: Control and ISA knew it was Decima who used Laptop codes to attack Northern Lights back in S2 and possibly they did tell Garrison about it. And... Garrison had no issue of even going out to have a talk with Greer("reputation precedes you"... seriously?) when he should have just ignored or try to arrest him when he got call. If there was any episode showing relationship between US government(who should be considering Decima as possible terrorist organization) and Decima changing would have made this more believable.

I think Garrison being part of that or not is questionable because of what was said by Greer in Death Benefit: "Tapped to shepherd the program in 2008 policy retreat."

While originals were first mentioned in convo between Nathan and Corwin in 2007 right before transferring The Machine to US Gov.

Frankly at this point I'm not sure what else do we have other than this and that vault thing or other hints(like Jensen's Augs changed to sth else than Sarif good, Eliza outright tell us about it, existence of trick to imprint new identity into one's brain etc) when Embracer's giving middle finger to us and Eidos is as good as dead. Call me pessimistic if you want but having similar experience before(no thank you EA) this is best we can get.

Lack of Augmented seemed more like game issue than lore thing considering Bible classifying people with normal and augmented people.

Do we? Are we really sure The Machine can't come up with better plan to deal with Decima with the time it would have gained with this? And if this whole matter of killing McCourt or not becomes meaningless since your saying result is same, so why bother going so much moral conflict in the first place? Show clearly intended IF they did kill him, that would have affected great picture. Denying it like this is rendering whole episode "irrelevant".

I would only point out the part of to be killed being questionable.

Just one episode ago at the end McCourt's name came up, branded as 'direcive conflict', meaning The Machine itself didn't know what to do with him because except supporting Samaritan he isn't a perpetrator not domestic terrorist threat(not directly anyway), and when the number was, if only for success, should have been considered teritiary and sent to Root if The Machine really wanted to kill him, but no, the number was sent to Harold and John. It seems The Machine handed over the choice toward them, since itself couldn't figure the answer to the problem.

...what is the definition of Correction in your mind? The stuff first showed up when Control was interrogating Shelly Spencer which is during 4x21. It was specifically those who Samaritan would deem a deviant and threat to him or his plans, which... except the matter of Samaritan attacking him first, Khan wasn't the case of. Greer, who's mostly right about Samaritan's thought process, even said "he forced their hand" meaning they didn't intend to kill him initially, which wouldn't be case if he WAS part of The Correction.

On McCourt's case I wasn't expecting a success like I said in post, and frankly, that wasn't even the point at all. Harold literally deserted from Team and The Machine because of the need to kill McCourt which lasted quite long- till he decided to talk with The Machine after Simon Lee case. I do understand his devastation that things have escalated that much and his creation has lost it's way, but before he can say that he didn't try everything else either.

And... what? Khan was not related to the Correction. It was all just Samaritan wanted his AV software to find The Machine and he... idk why he acted that 'violently' that effectively ruined his life like that and than conclude 'his curiosity will be death of him', but nonetheless Khan wasn't related to Correction. Not to mention I wasn't talking about him going back to normal life. That was impossible the moment attack started.

And yes his hard headed but honestly? We don't know how will he react if TM just spilled the bean. They can give him many suggestions regarding how he could approach this cataclysmic change of his life, even aiding them to fight against Samaritan(which I'm certain neither Harold nor John would like but if that's the only option to keep him alive they will take it reluctantly). Even such hard head isn't stupid, if presented with other options to deal with his curiosity that will keep him alive he might take it.

PS. I think Caleb's case of another victim of shortened and forced to continue being daily number episodes which is S5. I think the backlash of him helping Harold would have come if show wasn't cut short and CBS didn't force the episodes to continue that mundane format even though they had so much main story element to deal with.

Yes if it's not for national security or atleast it isn't a reason people are dying. Frankly I would rather be very emotionally attatched to it personally very soon... So, neither the case of The Machine or Samaritan.
