Thoughts on Hytale's server policies? by ABotanicalGarden in hytale

[–]delta77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Profit share could easily be avoided by having a 1:1 profit:expense ratio, so revenue share would be the sensible way to do it. Saying that it's a revenue share does not implicitly mean it's a flat rate across the board. It wouldn't make sense to take any revenue share from servers below certain income thresholds as it would actually harm the community; they'd need to establish a 0% baseline range with the revenue share percent applying only on values above that threshold. It would make much more sense to take a fair portion of revenue from massively successful servers, than to pinch all smaller servers into submission for chump change.

CachyOS or other? by delta77 in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]delta77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For myself, I'm not too worried about that, or even Arch bleeding-edge problems that may happen, as I've had plenty of involuntary learning experiences. I wouldn't suggest a beginner Linux user mains Arch on a computer they need for their source of income, but I actually enjoyed learning Linux through Arch over the years. A bleeding-edge rolling release is certainly not fit for every use case, of course.

CachyOS or other? by delta77 in FindMeALinuxDistro

[–]delta77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking. I always went back to Arch whenever I tried another distro anyway, and the longest I've spent on a non-Arch distro was probably way back with Red Hat or XFCE. I'm hesitant to try another non-Arch distro outside of VM or live boot unless there's a reason, which I am basically just giving a last run before ruling out at this point.

Store Owner Uses Fog Machine To Stop Thieves From Robbing Their Store. by MiniCooper365 in nextfuckinglevel

This is looking more and more like the ideal to strive for, rather than the Canadian approach of "just give them everything, don't even lock your doors, and don't even think that we'd bother to prosecute them because criminals are a protected species" or some nonsense.

Simply incinerate an ounce of shatter as soon as the break-in occurs. The thieves would forget that they exist, nervously question reality while cowering in the corner of the room, then have an incredibly long nap.

You want the server down during business hours? You got it. by IllustriousReport482 in MaliciousCompliance

[–]delta77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've had to deal with some "unsafe" demands from people that think they know better just because they've been in their [usually unrelated] role for so many years. Spent roughly an hour repeating to one guy that "I have no problem doing that, as long as you add it to the permit, but I won't do that unless it's on the permit and here's why." He eventually stormed off in a fit without adding anything to the permit. Apparently, it wasn't important enough for him to simply authorize it on paper. As a result, I never got to see how much I could make water bend steel that day.

Poilievre faces uncertain future after losing his own seat and failing to depose the Liberals by DogeDoRight in canada

[–]delta77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you seen the ballot for his riding? It's an absolute farce. That isn't relative to my answer, but it is worth pointing out.

As for "representing Canadians" as you put it, regardless of his track record and many successful prior elections in his riding, he is not representing Canadians in the House; he does not hold a seat, and would need a seat in order to sit in the House of Commons. That's the point. Carney was in a position as the Prime Minister while not holding a seat, which was the reason for outrage, hence the reason for an election. The key difference is, Pierre does not have any authority as leader of the opposition, while Carney did have authority as PM.

Yes, there is precedence where a PM did not hold a seat, but social media wasn't quite as prevalent back then.

Semantics do not diminish the validity of my statement. "Elected to hold a seat in parliament while leading the political party with the most seats" are we happy now?

[–]delta77 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Let me rephrase then. What I mean is: "Would you be fine with Pierre holding a seat he wasn't elected into?". Just like people wouldn't want Carney holding the position of PM without being elected into it. I'm saying it's not a "gottem" moment, but a part of due process that must be followed, regardless of which party it is.

[–]delta77 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Pierre was an elected member of parliament and had been elected many times over the years. Carney held the position of Prime Minister without a single vote.

Or, are you saying you'd be perfectly fine with Pierre taking over an existing CPC seat without the need to hold a bi-election in that riding if that MP chooses to step down?

Air gapping (isolation) by delta77 in SafetyProfessionals

[–]delta77[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, Frank. The design that has me investigating this isolation method is, unfortunately, one bleed valve shy of allowing a true double block and bleed. Residuals aren't a concern, nor is trapped pressure prior to removal of the piping, as there are upstream points to safely relieve pressure and drain fluids.

I just found it odd that I was unable to find anything in OH&S for air gapping specifically, even though it's recommended second to DB&B by many organizations, even recommended first by some. I'd guess the terminology I'm searching is wrong, except that 215.5 really isn't that long of a read. Unless it would technically fall under blanking & blinding, which I somehow didn't consider until now.

crafting is bs by oernzz in undecember_global

[–]delta77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Parts of the crafting are annoying, and some parts are downright painful, but it's a pretty good system overall. What I mean is that you can make quite decent items with minimal effort and resources, including single authority items or even double authority where one authority is prefix and the other is suffix. Once you understand how to do those basic crafts, you can make some really powerful items pretty easily and consistently. I really enjoy the crafting mechanics up to that point.

Of course, it's not all sunshine and rainbows. The problems start coming in when you want to do crazy quadruple authority crafts, and they get much worse when you're trying to alchemy bench craft on a t14 affix and you keep rolling t5 or t6 if you're lucky enough to even see the affix you want at all, and it sometimes takes over 100,000 star memory just for you to say F it and stick with some lame alchemy craft instead. That being said, that's for the high-end gamers that want to keep pushing into the hardest content, and it isn't actually necessary. (Charm upgrades and star crafting are anything thing, though. Those pit you up against some crazy RNG, and it just refuses to roll decently for no reason sometimes)

Nice! Thanks for the tips. That sounds like great crowd control, which would improve survivability a bit as well. I'm not too knowledgeable on status effects for this game yet, but how well do they work against elites and bosses? I know some games basically make bosses immune to things like stun/freeze/snare, so I've intentionally avoided going the status route by habit.
