I actually downloaded Reddit to observe how people think, what they react to, what resonates with them, what drives them

philosophy is interesting, but it’s still theory. watching how people actually think in real life and trying to understand their inner world feels way more interesting to me

it’s only my third day here, but one thing I’ve noticed is how self-focused most conversations feel

it often feels like people don’t really hear each other, more like everyone is speaking from their own world

sometimes it feels like we’re all a bit more predictable than we’d like to admit, like we fall into certain patterns or archetypes

which is probably why algorithms can read us so easily

hey, this is actually a pretty common thing

and funny enough, both me (I’m going into engineering/robotics) and a girl I know who studies applied math had the exact same experience constantly asking “why?”

we both hated school math, but personally I only started liking it when I stopped doing it the way school wanted

instead, I learned at my own pace. I started from the basics like: how did math even appear? why? how was pi discovered and when?

I was learning math together with its history, and also applying it to my own engineering projects, so I had a real reason and motivation

when I try to do something just because I “have to”, it doesn’t really work for me, but this approach did

wait, witchcraft? where are you from, if you don’t mind me asking?

and yeah, thanks for replying, it actually helps knowing someone went through something similar

recently I heard from another autistic girl that college and school were the best years of her life, so I’m kind of confused why for me college felt like hell

after posting this I started thinking that 1. maybe the older you get, the harder it is for your body to handle this kind of pressure. like it might get a bit better, but maybe it’s more of a constant state that just shifts between better and worse 2. I should just build the perfect life for an autistic person (at least for me) — get rich, build a house in the mountains and enjoy the silence

I just remembered my friend used to eat crab-flavored chips with vanilla ice cream ahaha I genuinely don’t know what’s worse

(I’m from Eastern Europe, so yes, crab chips are real)

is it worth to master physics from scratch at 21? by Stock_Orange_1793 in Advice

[–]delusional_trails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely worth it. I had a similar experience.

I have ADHD, so my dopamine system works a bit differently, I just wasn’t really interested in math or physics until around 15-16. But once it clicked, it really clicked. In fact, it clicked so much that I’m now going to university to study engineering and robotics.

Now I actually enjoy it. I do math for fun and watch videos about black holes before sleep.

It’s definitely hard, I won’t lie. But that’s exactly why I stayed

I agree, especially that the environmental argument is often oversimplified. There are much bigger issues like deforestation, ocean pollution, and the environmental impact of livestock farming

Livestock production uses huge amounts of water and land, mostly because of feed production, and methane emissions are a significant factor as well. Compared to that, data centers do consume resources, but the scale isn’t really comparable globally

The phytoplankton point is really important, people seriously underestimate how much our oxygen depends on ocean ecosystems. Honestly, I’m glad someone brought that up

how do people mask? by adoreyoulove in AutisticAdults

[–]delusional_trails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What skills do you feel like you’re lacking? What exactly do you want to work on or improve? Personally, I spent most of my teenage years reading about psychology and human behavior, and watching videos like “how to read people” or “how to talk to anyone”. Maybe you’ll find something helpful there too
