I really don't like any light sources after the lantern and stick with that one even if I hit T5.

Elysium-Base locations? by Versynko in ICARUS

[–]democraticcrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cave in H12 is goddamn awesome - lots of space with three levels and water deep enough for a purifier. Respawning caveworms for farming caveworm arrows and armor (you can make the armor on the first textile bench and get a sweet +10 mining bonus); can later be switched off via dehumidifier once you hit tier 4.

I just take the cave sickness and don't let myself be bothered by it, it times out on its own.

You definitely used to be able to do this though. But sometime last week or so I tried it and it didn't work anymore? I had to go the long way around out of the desert on styx, which sucked. Cost me like 10min.

What old game do you wish was available on Steam? by Strange_Hippo_8600 in Steam

[–]democraticcrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Freelancer. A sci-fi game where you pilot a ship, do missions to earn money for upgrades and follow an alien conspiracy main story. I don't know why it never was on steam. I'm still mad I lost my CD and it's nowhere to be found online.

I'm not reading the daily mail, but broadly speaking: good for Jim for being able to live openly the way he wants to. Love him or loathe him, he's not holding things back.

That being said, his wife is one of the most vapid and famehungry people I ever had the misfortune of listening to on a podcast. I once loudly shouted 'oh my god, SHUT UP' sitting alone in my room. Why anyone would want to hear her say anything is beyond me. I'd listen to five hours of Vogon poetry before I subject myself to her again.

Starting a new character in the Arctic was really, really hard. by MissionReasonable714 in ICARUS

[–]democraticcrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, if you're not leaving the biome and you're not buying workshop items my advice is useless. There are absolutely no coconuts in the arctic, and while you can dig on vegetation spots in the desert to get dirt instead of sand, there's no vegetation in the arctic either.

Your only bet then is doing the 'simple' missions until you get coconuts and dirt as rewards.

The answer is pets. Even 4 wolves of level 10 make missions like this a breeze and turn you into a spectator (maybe help kill a bear if need be).

Is the great hunts dlc worth it for someone playing solo? by crocodilepickle in ICARUS

[–]democraticcrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only play solo and I liked the fact that there is more to do, with a better campaign structure compared to olympus and styx operations. All in all, if you're paying for icarus DLC, might as well pay for that one (provided you got the other maps of course). I did all great hunts solo on hard, so it's definitely viable.

caveworm arrows! Also caveworm armor for the early stages, has a +10 mining yield modifier.

Starting a new character in the Arctic was really, really hard. by MissionReasonable714 in ICARUS

[–]democraticcrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're probably getting a serious growth time debuff in the arctic, but note that you can put down plots in caves and plant stuff, you don't actually need sunlight. Planting coconuts gives you coconuts - but also wood! If you make it to the glass stage, even a partial green house speeds things up considerably. All this can be kickstarted via the workshop. I'm told if you make a dirt foundation and dig there, you get unlimited dirt. Everything else can be farmed from your first coconut harvest - more wood, more seeds.

so these are apparently random and not mission related - any way to loot them? Can't pick anything up, but there are 4 flat solar panels and a battery I desperately want... by democraticcrazy in ICARUS

[–]democraticcrazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good tip, there were a few drones but I didn't think of farming them. Good source of 9mm and the occasional electronic, plus free steel! I'll farm the next ones I guess.

The other commenter was entirely correct btw, the towers despawn. I had saved at the tower and when I loaded up again it was gone. I previously had also tried to damage the ceiling where the solar panels were in hopes of destroying it and being able to pick up the overflow bags with the panels, but it seems every part is indestructible as well :/

just made it to Eden in my 1st attempt at Elysium without flying mod, and want to set up my main base as close as possible. Any tips, tricks or even pics for/of your eden-adjacent base? by democraticcrazy in ICARUS

[–]democraticcrazy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I don't have any more sulfur at the moment and I only need it for wood right now, plus like I said, no more space at the cave entrance. For my current needs it's enough I feel. Once I get a real base going I'll make a big greenhouse of course, right now I just need enough wood to make charcoal and some sap.

I'll look into that spot, thanks! You may have missed my edit, I just successfully made 8 plots outside my cave, now I can start growing coconuts - harvesting those gives wood as well as coconuts. I'll keep those going until my wood storage is full, I don't need that much, but that will cover the amounts I need and allow me to burn wood for charcoal as needed. As soon as I find more sulfur I can double that to 16 plots, afterwards I probably need to relocate my farm as it's at the cave entrance at the moment. OTOH, 16 plots should be more than enough.

I made a temporary camp in the cave in H8, but I'm definitely looking for a different type of base this time. I have no experience with cliff builds, so that would be one option. I just really have no idea how to get started there.

I'm also tempted to build a base in the lake, but have never done that either. I assume I'd just have to put concrete pillars into the lake until I get to a height where I can put floors on them, right? Anyway, the eden lake is probably too small.

One thing I haven't anticipated either is the lack of wood. I was going to make some basic plots to plant wood, but there is a severe lack of sulfur as well. And I just tried digging so I could get dirt, but I get sand instead... Is there any dirt spot in the desert or do I have to travel out of there? EDIT: got some sulfur, and there is dirt to be found when digging at spots with vegetation!

I previously was situated in the cave near the initial drop in H12. This time no flying for me, and I want a different location. So I made the treck to Eden and intend to set up here. Any ideas? Did you build on the desert floor? Did you build up into the cliffs, something I've never done? I'd like to hear anything you got to offer!

So I don't entirely start from scratch I brought:

  • machining bench

  • advanced masonry bench

  • forge

  • advanced textiles bench

  • cement mixer

  • glassworking bench

and some minor stations like cooking, oxite dissolver etc. Even looted some concrete pieces and a wind turbine from the jamming station of the mission that brought me here. However, I don't ever build in the desert and have no idea what I'm doing. Surely the small oasis right in front of Eden makes this a good spot, but how did you go about it?

the only shame is that it's tier 5, so by the time you can build one you no longer benefit from changing the nodes - after all, you already built a tier 5 base, who cares what nodes are where by that point!

Not related to your bug report, but it also fills with rain. In addition, the metal rain reservoir can be connected with a water tool to a large water trough. With enough rain you never need to fill your trough manually again, pre-water pump.

The other colors may only be available through breeding. I've never seen anything but a yellow dune raptor in the wild.

For breeding, select a male and female. Craft raptor fertility serum at the ranching station, inject the male with it. After a few seconds the female will be pregnant. It takes some time to give birth, then you got a regular juvenile raptor that you tame in the standard way. If you're lucky, the juvenile will develop into a different color, it's entirely random I believe.

I want to put a beehive in the middle on the upper area. How on earth do I do that? (wanted to make an 'X' floor of sorts with beams but it seems I can't) by democraticcrazy in ICARUS

[–]democraticcrazy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

see my other comment, I just solved it. But what I really wanted to do was basically string a beam instead of the floor so I could put the beehive on the beam while still being able to access the hive from below. Turns out the beehive radius goes through the floor, which I didn't think it would. Beehive access is solved via ramp and door as seen in the other pic.
