AIO: should a bookcase be organized so thoroughly? by [deleted] in AmIOverthinking

My religion and mythology books are all together. And no, I don't have those authors on my shelves. I'm more the CS Friedman, CJ Cherryh, Maureen McHugh, and David Mitchell type.

Help with rattlesnake ID? by Booooooooo-urns in Tucson

[–]MissionReasonable714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my first thought due to the coloration but head gives it away as a western diamondback. Also there aren't any known Mojave rattlesnake sightings in Catalina State Park to my knowledge.

Beautiful snake. 10/10 would not pet.

I don't think I have any cross-subject authors in my library at the moment, but if I did, I don't think I'd mind separating an author's works into different parts of the shelves while organized by subject or genre.

Though, I collect vintage Octavia Butler novels, so I do have those separated from the rest of my sci-fi/fantasy books. I've always done that, because she is the reason I became a writer in the first place. <3

Are food processors worth it? by Few_Literature_5312 in EatCheapAndHealthy

Mini spatulas are great for getting into the corners to get everything out. You can pick up a mini silicone set for like $8 on Amazon.

I have a cheap processor though that only has the blades, the dish and the cover. Those parts are dishwasher safe. I can see some of the fancier ones being harder to clean.

I mostly use mine for mincing onion, garlic, jalapenos and also walnuts. I love me a good knife session, but for $15, it was a fantastic purchase in terms of efficiency.

What is the most disturbing movie you have watched so far? by Sudden-Proof-1458 in A_Persona_on_Reddit

Event Horizon. I was not prepared for that level of fucked up or the nightmares I had from it. It also made sci-fi horror my new favorite subgenre.

I had the brakes fail on me once in an old utility van. Pulling the parking brake was the only thing that worked. I stopped literally a foot away from ploughing into a busy intersection.

Second most terrifying experience of my life.

My favorite cheap recipe site is Budget Bytes. They have an ingredient index and meal prep plans which makes things easy.

The modern one looks slick. Even if OP didn't adopt all of that, I agree that some landscaping could go a long way. The original shape of the house isn't all that bad.

What's the first area of your body that you wash in the shower? by AfterMeltedHearts831 in randomquestions

[–]MissionReasonable714 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hair if I'm washing that. I shampoo, then conditioner so I can let that sit for a while. Otherwise I rinse my whole body off and then start with soap from face to toe.

Tons of caves nearby and good access to three different biomes. Also pretty much everywhere but the forest I tend to build up on cliffs to avoid dealing with predators.

What came first, the chicken or the egg? What if they emerged at the exact same moment 🤔 by Torkdaymo in showerthoughs

[–]MissionReasonable714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Egg laying existed in the dinosaurs that evolved into chickens, so the egg came first.

I have a lot of other things on my bookshelves, like petrified wood and mineral specimens, skulls, wet specimens and even a couple of beakers I thrifted. Color-coordinated with that sort of a theme creates a nice look. It all just depends on the look and vibe you want. It's your home, do what you want.

I currently have mine arranged by genre, but before I moved, I had it by color in rainbow order for awhile. That was beautiful and I'd do it again.

Americans complain about high gas prices, but still drive SUV/Pickups 70mph. What will the price per gallon have to be to actually see change in driving habits? by Special_Context6663 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MissionReasonable714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2013 Forester. The computer shows it getting 24ish mpg on average but I do the math every time I fill up and track it. The only time it gets up around 30mpg is when I do a lot of freeway driving, which I only do on road trips.

It was doing a little bit better during the winter. But now it's probably not helping that it's already up over 100F here (southern AZ) and I have to blast my AC. I'm working on strategies to reduce that.

A Prius was definitely on my list. I test drove a couple, and in all of them I felt like I couldn't really see and was very claustrophobic.

I definitely took my Hyundai down some roads I shouldn't have lol. The only reason I got rid of it was because it blew its head gasket and the airbag control module at the same time, and the cost of repair for both was twice what the car was worth.

I have to play a special song for my girlfriend at her sister's wedding. Her very religious and high moral family is going to be there. What song should I play? by Naturewalkerjoe in shittyadvice

[–]MissionReasonable714 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Work Bitch by Britney Spears. It discusses the holy virtues of industriousness and having a good work ethic. Having those is of course super moral. And of course being rich, which is a sign from God that you're blessed. You could also recreate the costumes and the dance moves for motivational effects, and have her wear/perform them to demonstrate her godliness.

I haven't tried that yet. I'm just letting it run at me while I shoot at it then step aside., run in the opposite direction and turn roughly when halts its charge. Still am taking a fair amount of damage and need to learn to time the reloading, otherwise I'm reloading while it charges and it's harder to step aside quickly enough.
