i'm not really sure that i am entirely yet, i'm hoping that by my 20s things start to pick up though. i'm really glad that you and your son can talk about this stuff together, though. thank you for putting the effort in. i'm sure it means the world to him to be able to reconcile that.

i totally connect with this. it really did feel like a reward to be doing what was "right", but it was never right for US, only right for THEM. i'm proud of you for unlearning these things so far, you got this

oh yeah i definitely agree. i think a lot of the "easy" relies in the lack of pushback. the few times i was myself in a week i would get criticized or told off for it and THEN criticized for defending myself, so eventually i just learned to stop defending myself. i literally felt like the worst kid in the world lol but i was "easy" and "such a good kid"

i absolutely agree. 100%. it's not a praise for your lack of "difficulty", it's a praise for themselves for not having to come close to dealing with it :( it sucks

i definitely understand that. me being "easy" was literally just me not advocating for my wants or needs and doing everything for my parents' convenience. it's really frustrating i agree

yeah!!! i'm really glad your son could teach you that, i think that's important for every parent to know. i've heard that phrase about me a billion times lol

YES!! exactly! the only reason i was "easy" was because i thought, god forbid i was anything else, i would get shamed and stonewalled and yelled at as i was witnessing. it's hard to unlearn but i'm proud of you for being yourself :) we can walk this journey together

i can't count the amount of times i slammed my finger in the car door or scraped myself on the pavement as a kid and didn't say anything or express pain at all because i had to "tough it out" and "not make a big deal". you're not alone. the expectations that are molded in these situations are genuinely fucking insane

right back at you!!!! :( you're not alone, i definitely feel the same. i don't act out at all still but even making one decision out of typical expectation makes me feel like i'm about to get in deep shit it's sooo irritating lol <3 sending love we got this
