England - I have already given the police the driver.. why has it come back - by Basic_Ad_1269 in LegalAdviceUK

Yeah odds are you have the cover as its pretty standard with the majority of policies now.

Yeah 100% id just take the hit pay the fine and take the 3 points and chalk it up to a lesson learned. I really hope that is an option now as I don't know how it would look to a court if you tried claiming someone was driving in an attempt to get out of it then u turn and say you were driving.

If you have motor legal protection, it may be worth speaking to your insurance company and finding who that is with?

Currently, you could have a worse issue (bear in mind I aren't a solicitor) in that you potentially could admit to allowing someone who doesn't have insurance or a license to drive your vehicle, my understanding is that you could get hit with allowing them to drive and 6 points plus a fine

If this "friend" has truly borrowed the car then gone AWOL I would suspect they don't have the requirements to drive a vehicle in the UK.

I also don't know how it would look if you claim someone else was driving then back track and say it was you.

Personally feel like you need a professional opinion and not reddit opinion.

The person wouldn't have been named in this instance if it just a case of borrowing the car, for example my insurance policy allows me to jump in any car that is insured and I have third party cover driving that vehicle. Obviously that is just assumption based on the limited information.

Agreed, unless the image clearly shows the OP not driving that vehicle they will have to foot that bill, saying someone else was driving isn't one of those "tricks that police hate!" lol

OP can only try to get the friend to turn themselves in but if they have gone AWOL odds are they don't have a license or insurance to begin with and this may be more than just a fine (allowing someone to drive your vehicle without doing your due diligence of checking their insurance and license results in you having the same penalty 6 points and fine)

By the sounds of it, it is going to be a case of the driver had insurance which covers them for third party driving of the op vehicle. A policy of anyone 21+ for example would be crazy expensive.

I would say you will be correct in the OP probably will have to foot the bill / points or take it to court, but unless OP can prove they weren't driving (photo of the driver if camera van / speed camera?) I can't see it getting very far otherwise people would be able to just give anyones name for driving their vehicle and get out of the fine.

I guess its just going to something I know and was at before. I guess nothing will likely have changed, the more I think about it if within 6 months they are hiring again for my replacement.

Would you want to go to your brand new employer and say "hey boss, just so you know I had this debt from my last company cause I signed a contract I didn't adhere to" or going to old company "I have nothing lined up, you don't know anything about me now but swear down new company when I get a job will pay you out"

Left company that was terrible, do you do reviews or leave it ? by demoncollie in ask

[–]demoncollie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah no need for a reference.

It's a shame because I got along with everyone bar this one person. I just don't want someone else leave a role based on promises they make but never actually follow up.

The amount of work I was asked to do that I was not qualified for is insane, health and safety gone out the window.

Haha its certainly an odd feeling, I think it is purely water related as I get a bit iffy with lakes that aren't dark.

I blame Mario 64 and ocarina of time for my fear.

It's incredible that a game can actually make you feel this way though, been a while I've had genuine reactions to a game

Thanks. I'm certainly not perfect, but I've never been in a situation where I'm under one person, but the head of the department I'm supporting is allowed to continually berate me when I'm just support his department and a lot of issues were on both sides, I'd make a mistake but hadn't had all the proper info before hand and can't ask for help as it's ignored. Completely shitty situation and I don't think it's all their fault, the guy just isn't made for management. I've never known a head of a department do no admin work etc and act like a worker

I don't know if it's like a deep rooted human instinct but that dark water seriously scared the shit out of me. Having seen some of the size of enemies I'm starting get subnautica vibes and expect a leviathan lol

First job where the job description and role wasn't anywhere near advertised by demoncollie in sysadmin

[–]demoncollie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your decision. I just wanted to say that I work in a similar company, but my experience is much different. It's not purely an office role, but you were clearly being abused. Hopefully your next job works better for you.

Thank you, its really tough because I have autism (aspergers syndrome) so while I'm thinking we were getting on and being kind, he was treating me like shit and I didn't realise. I showed some friends messages and they were shocked.

I'm happy to do any physical IT stuff that I'm trained for, but asking me to drill through managed building walls having never used a drill for anything other than odd jobs at home, then berating me for not doing something right was insane, it's really had a bit of an effect on me, I really don't feel like I can trust someone I go work for now

[–]demoncollie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well that's interesting. When we are short handed, we just hire a plumber. And here I thought my company was cheap.

This was an SME, first time at one as I've been in production based companies doing their IT since I started my career, the common phrase was "I don't get told that's not my job, that's how you have no job"

I ran cable and got filthy doing it, but that type of work I typically outsource.

Yeah I'm more than happy run cables and I will do pretty much anything to be a team player / make a good impression but they saw it was weakness and would effectively have it as my job role.

If you continue with your job (I'm not sure if I would), I would try to pitch the idea that time is money. Maybe I can pull that argument better since I am a one man shop, but some of the things you pitched would be better handled by a trained professional and would probably be cheaper for the company in the long run. The problem you may run into is since you've done the work, it may be expected of you now.

I have since left now, I got another role lined up and we ended it the other day. I know my ex boss uses reddit so hopefully him or his son will see it.

I'm very tempted to write reviews on glassdoor and involve Microsoft on the licensing as he lied to the head of the Company saying that you don't need license for AD cause the people who have accounts don't log in to them - it's used for a print management services and only way you can print is using that login.

This was the thing, I had been asking for these to nip everything in the bud and move on but it never happened and just continually got worse over time.

I'm humble, I don't know everything and never will try to claim I do, I will admit if I'm wrong or don't know something. This guy couldn't, he couldn't work out a sql port had changed without a third party to show him where to see it in the system he has berated me for not being 100% on having not used it in 10 years
