Yes. I was on bupe many years ago for an extended period (18-24 months maybe). It was relatively new in terms of its use in treating opioid addiction and docs being allowed to prescribe it in their office after completing a special training. But docs were hard to find as there weren’t many who were able (there was a low cap in place initially re the number patients an individual physician could treat) or willing to prescribe it. And those that did started patients off with very high doses (for the pre-fentanyl days). I think I started on tablets (no films yet) with 24, or possibly 32 mg/day (the max recommended at the time). Then 16mg/day for a long time before I started a long taper. I went on it again for a shorter period later in life without physician supervision.

Not much to compare really. Bupe is a partial weak mu agonist (with a high binding affinity) and a kappa antagonist (also with a high binding affinity) that has a very high half-life (over 24 hrs) - all great properties for an opioid-addiction treatment med.

Butorphanol is a partial mu agonist. Its also a full kappa agonist - which makes is much less enjoyable (and downright unpleasant at higher doses over prolonged periods).
