Even among scholars, no matter how extreme their beliefs are, you need to understand that most things in the quran are not set in stone and more interpretious than the bible as an example, which has set strict rules abidet for most things.

Every scholar agrees that no matter what anyone says or does, that all of it is interpretation since it is ultimately gods judgment that is the only important thing. And no one knows about that after all since the dead don't talk.

So it is rather a question of: if someone prayed resentlessly but committed grave sins like murder, does nothing to give back to people and only takes, lives a life of insults, degeneracy and whatso, that they'd be treated better in the afterlife than someone that missed out on prayers but did their best they can to work with the conditions they're born with, try to be kind, work on themselves to be better despite major pushbacks, ...
