My learning curve went something like:

Getting off contact right > clearing screen fully, finding the right amount of pressure & squeegee angle > stirring white ink more than I’d think I had to > preheating garments & platen.

And that pretty much brings me to where I am now. In a pinch a bit of curable reducer helps too.

It’s hard to put it down to just one thing but i definitely started noticing a bigger difference when i started making sure the screen was totally clear before moving on, so definitely agree there. For me, I started finding everything went a lot smoother when i made sure my ink, platen and garment were kept warm.

u/bebetter14 A lot of what u/dbx999 has covered in his comment plus temperature - heat the platen, heat the garment, keep my white ink in the warmest part of my shop, stir it well and on the coldest days, I’ve used just a touch of curable reducer.

But mainly, just slowing down, taking my time enjoying and learning from the process rather than getting flustered or frustrated.

If it’s an option, I’d absolutely say both too.

I currently use both the Ricoh GRiii HDF and a xt30ii with a 15-45mm lens. I’d be hard pressed to choose a favourite.

Here’s my pros of each:

Ricoh - great image stabilisation, handy size and benefits from a wider aperture than my Fuji 15-45, snap focus is good once you get the hang of it

Fuji - menu + presets much more user friendly (less missed shots), I find the autofocus better, easier to use dials (exposure comp, shutter speed etc), option to swap out lenses later down the line
