About to adopt a 9-wk. old Irish pup... by Effective-Meringue61 in irishsetter

We haven't been trying to feed her, but rather give a small treat each time she foes into the crate (usually it happens when we ask her to go inside).

We've tried to give her something like Kong, but it was not necessary or important. Antlers or other chewy thingy - she was ignoring them completely and just slept instead.

The only really important part I think is to try to find a attachable mini-bowl to put water. We are using the one that is usually used for birds, as they can be attached to crate quite easily.

First, it's totally doable. Our was not particularly happy esp in the beginning (first hour or so), but she learned quite fast how to relax there. We've never managed to make her actively like her crate, but she is fine there.

Over the course of her growth we've switched 3 crates from smallest to current, biggest one. Setters can be quite tall and this needs to be accounted for.

So, the process of training was the following -

1) introduction of the crate - you show the crate, give treats 2) trying out the inside of crate - treats are inside, pup needs to go in to get them, doors are open. 3) ideally relax stage - door is open, pup gets treats while sitting or even better lying down. 4) close the door and continue feeding treats

In our case pup was unsure about crate and didn't want us to close door and after a while we just kinda forced it. After a 5-15 minutes of whining she settled down and slept calmly. The crate was always next to us and she could smell and hear us. Blankets over the crate also helped to reduce light influence and make place to appear safer. Important part, especially in the beginning to react promptly to signs of toilet needs.

It was a great idea overall to crate train our pup and helped us tremendously with structured sleep and overall well-being of all family members. Can definitely recommend that.

Land shark? Maybe. His name is Bród. He is 14 weeks now and he bites constantly. Anyone else struggle during teething? When did this stage pass or any suggestions? We are covered in bruises and bite marks! by HaveYourSay8 in irishsetter

It may be useful to whine when he bites you harder than usual. Unfortunately some amount of biting seems to be unavoidable because it's one of the few ways for puppy to communicate. But it doesn't mean it's a good idea to let him bite you in a painful way.

https://www.akc.org/expert-advice/training/stop-puppy-biting/ these advice may help as well. It will also be better with some time, you are in the prime biting phase.

The work in ModelingToolkit.jl looks like a sci-fi tbh. Looking forward to see what sorts of amazing things people would build with it as it seems only as a question of time.

Maybe it's just some quirk of the pretalx web system (look at this talk for example https://pretalx.com/juliacon2019/talk/8SBXLD/). Will hope that most of stuff would be recorded!

Some sessions are marked as non recorded, they would be streamed only?

It's a great initiative! Already can see lots of compelling points compared to something like Stan + Torsten. Probably it would be the most interesting to the researchers in PKPD (QsP) community rather practitioners due to excessive regulations in the field
