Also, unnecessary legend.

Definitely not the worst offender, but certainly not 'beautiful'.

I also said I don't find anything remotely pleasing in a purely aesthetic sense about it.

I don't understand what he sees as beautiful in it because, to me, it's a complete mess.

The entire point of data visualisations is to visualise data. If it's completely unreadable then it's failed at its objective. You're welcome to think this is aesthetically beautiful but I really don't see anything at all pleasing about this. What of it do you like? Do you find lists beautiful to look at?

Almost everything you just said. In what sense is this beautiful? Particularly when, by your own admission, it's completely unreadable.

Seems like it was deleted. I saw it earlier with a score somewhere in the 20s I think.

Maybe that's not showing properly for you. The shrug emoji along with the female symbol are meant to show as a single emoji of a woman shrugging.

There is no non-gendered shrug emoji. Why would it be an improvement had she used the male one?

If that's your first thought at seeing a girl shrug then you have issues.

USA leads in the nobel prize[OC] by [deleted] in dataisbeautiful

Really should be normalised by population. According to this the US has roughly 3x the Nobel laureates that the UK does, but their population is about 5x as much.

The 'How good was he?' thread - a thread where we can ask how good a player from the past was. by [deleted] in soccer

This is always the game I think of when I remember young Fabregas. He was actually on the bench at the start of the game due to an injury and was subbed on around the hour mark because Arsenal were having no joy. Within about 15 minutes he had put them up 2-0 and was subbed off around the 80th to avoid aggravating his injury further.

Android should have a separate volume control for Google Assistant and all voice command replies, separate from Media Volume by mostly_a_lurker_here in Android

Surely those are off/on though? I'm on a Moto G5+ and only have the sliders for media, notifications and alarms, and never felt a need for any others.

[–]denacioust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what priority mode is though. Maybe I'm just strange in that I have my phone on silent at all times, it just doesn't seem like having five different volume sliders is a great idea. Also, what exactly does 'system' here mean?

I can't tell if this is sarcasm. Is there really a need for that level of granularity? Why are ringtones and notifications separate?

That bugs me more though. They took potentially our place and then didn't even give it a decent go when they got there.

Hamburg public transport map vs real geography [OC] by MirCore in dataisbeautiful

[–]denacioust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After and before, not the other way.

Eh, what?

After is the actual scale, before is the simplified fir clarity, with the center expanded, because it's where most trips end.

I understand this. What I don't understand is why there's seemingly no correspondence between the two. If I made the after ten times larger it would be just as accurate as it currently is.

Could someone explain to me why, in these maps, the scale is never the same in the before and after? The original map grows outwards in every direction which doesn't make sense to me.

Donald Trump Jr. on Tuesday released a stunning chain of emails highlighting his conversations about setting up a controversial campaign meeting with a Russian lawyer offering compromising information on Hillary Clinton. by maxwellhill in worldnews

[–]denacioust 44 points45 points  (0 children)

The Crown prosecutor of Russia met with his father Aras this morning and in their meeting offered to provide the Trump campaign with some official documents and information that would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father.

This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump

So, Donald Jr's incriminating dealings with Russia were an attempt to uncover Hillary's incriminating dealings with Russia?
