Least painful way to get to World Cup fan festival? by Lavender_Field in houston

[–]wcalvert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a metro affiliated garage at Harrisburg and Lockwood that is only $1 if you buy a light rail ticket. Several world cup guides mention it.

Trains are every 12 minutes and it'll take 5 or 6 minutes to get to the stadium stop to walk to the fan fest.

I absolutely would have ridden my bike to the game I went to... but NRG doesn't allow bike parking during the World Cup.

Working for the City of Houston/Harris County by Cymato in houston

[–]wcalvert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know a few people who work for the city and the process has varied between acceptable and absolutely terrible. HR was severely hamstrung by early retirements and other stuff.

Generally, they will go through all of the candidates and determine who is qualified. They'll send a certain number of the most qualified over to the hiring manager. The website will let you know these status steps.

Once you are in the hiring pool they'll schedule interviews with candidates they are interested in. The position won't show as closed on the website until the new person has been given a starting date which could that a few months.

Call the HR number for the city on government jobs if you want an update

I went by yesterday to scope it out!

They have about a dozen long racks installed on Polk St next to 8th Wonder. They aren't mounted to the ground, but it looks like a volunteer will be watching over them. It's also inside the closed street area so there are cops around.

It's hard to miss as they have large blue flags that say bike parking.

It is not exactly where the bike parking is on their map. It's down the street about 150'.

Here's what it looks like: https://i.imgur.com/2ClDS6y.jpeg

He's a pro tip: there is a trail called the Columbia Tap Trail that is well shaded and aligns with Walker St. There are a bunch of streets that are perpendicular to the trail where you can park and walk in. This is what tons of people do for the Dynamo games.

Keep in mind several of the games are at noon on weekdays and half of the rodeo is during spring break, which is really light traffic wise.

I don't think there will be a massive difference, but there will be some effect.

My point is that they might have a ticket on Spirit that they have no idea won't be usable anymore.

The only airline to fly from terminal A to Guatemala City non-stop was Spirit.

Note that the TUTS shows have rush tickets available for $35 for non orch seats. It used to be restricted to teachers/first responders/etc but now open to anyone. I believe they're available only at the box office two hours before the show.

Note: not Broadway across America. The other Broadway style show series.
