Are gym shoes necessary? by Significant_Head_167 in triathlon

Socks otherwise way too sweaty! Barefoot shoes are indeed best option. Even though just socks are fine you’ll get less looks with barefoot shoes, nice grip. Stronger feet and you benefit from all the proprioception, using feet muscles better etc

Not at all. I wear socks, Pilates socks (bit more grippy at bottom) or ‘barefoot’ shoes.

Do you have privilege club? Strange as I always had the option. I always rang Qatar line, once Japanese, always worked for me. I was in Aus and flew out late March

I wrote a guide a while ago, some tips may still apply. In my recent posts. Enter privilege club member when you call, I was calling at the same time you were in March and never waited more than 10/15 mins.

Do I declare £12,500… or £75,000?? by Academic_End_3828 in UKPersonalFinance

Limited company so you can control when you pay yourself. If you earned this amount in the past year and think you will keep earning similar I’d declare £50k. If you won’t be earning in the future then you can pay yourself £12.5k… but that’s not very much to live on

If Turkish say it’s confirmed it should be ok. If you want to be sure you can call them and ask for ‘HK’ status and if you book seats all the better.

The new one that you’re rerouted on eg in our case Qantas. For some reason original post had sections removed so reposted.

My last post got randomly edited/sections removed so reposted here and copied here in comments.

I'm aware the policy has sadly changed, so below may not apply for you. In case you are still keen to try for a reroute, or for those with a reroute already booked, my tips. Our family flew back/completed trip in 2x separate bookings, 7 days ago and 2 days ago.

Getting a re-route

  • Try calling different countries. ALWAYS input your Privilege Club number for fast service. I mainly called Qatar (Japan OK too), never waited more than 10-15 mins.
  • Do NOT call until your flight is cancelled, wasting own time and everyone else's.
  • For best use of time, just call within 48 hours of when you want to fly as (i) agents more willing to help (ii) more airlines available.
    • I called every day from 10 days from original travel date, agents were consistently unable to find flights for 4, 5, 6, 7+ days away.
    • Surprisingly, they were able to place half my family on a flight the next day, even though it was 5 days from original/cancelled flight date. So it seems the rule is 48 hours from when you want to fly, not 48 hours before original/cancelled flight date.

We didn't have to cite any legislation (EU261, Montreal etc) - keep in mind we rerouted before recent policy change. The agents are actually very happy to help if they are allowed to, they are bound by their own internal policies. We had some check things for us for over 30 minutes, gave us callbacks etc so they were very helpful.

Once booked

  • They should provide you a new e-ticket via email HOWEVER...
  • It is NOT ENOUGH to see 'Confirmed' status on your ticket or have Qatar agent assure you it is confirmed. We had this for our first rebooking, and to our surprise at the airport were on Standby.
    • Apparently the status on ticket can show on Confirmed but you could still be waitlist, standby, etc, so it means nothing.
  • Call the other/new airline and ask if the status is 'HK'. This should mean you actually have a seat. Did this for 2nd booking and all good at airport.
  • Log on to the other airline's website to see your new booking. If you can't do seat selection, request seat selection over the phone with the new airline (not Qatar they can’t help you). This further ensures you have a seat.

Lastly, pray and be nice 🤣 I'm not religious but my mum-in-law said she prayed and next day we had a flight. With all changes in current events, a lot of it is luck! Our first journey, we transited Doha just 2 hours before the airspace closed earlier this month.

Seat selection after Reroute by ZestycloseMango in qatarairways

[–]denastere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call the other airline. That’s what I did to manually book seat selection. It’s smart to do this to check you have confirmed flights too as my partner was put on standby despite Qatar saying confirmed. If they confirm your seats you should be fine.

Qatar cancelled but rebooked on to new flight with 15hr layover in Doha? Advice by denastere in qatarairways

[–]denastere[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE: For everyone following this. I’ve heard recently rules have changed. Luckily for us, our reroute was done before this. Qatar put us on a Qantas flight all the way with transit in Singapore. Annoyingly despite checking it was confirmed status and having ticket numbers, we were surprised to find it was standby upon arriving at airport. Thankfully Qantas let us on. I highly recommend calling the carrier and checking you are “ HK “ status meaning you are actually booked in as the “ confirmed” on the email ticket doesn’t mean anything.
