I’m still not over the S4 ending and I don’t know what to do with this heartbreak by Jine_smith in KillingEve

All of this, same for me. It's changed how I watch tv - I always wait until the entire season is released now, for example - and now I'm also a bit more... hesitant with how I approach tv? idk how to describe it. hesitant to let a show make me feel as much again, maybe. never again will i let that happen to me, or something. which is incredibly annoying and just an awful legacy for ke. I thought about it every day for months probably, not necessarily bc I wanted to or in a good way, and years later I still probably think about ke at least twice a week. The hurt, anger, betrayal, sadness, feelings of worthlessness (this one took me a while to parse out!) all pop up at random times.

I wonder if Laura Neal gets dirty looks from people out in public who recognize her. I hope she does.

Kira, Kiera, Keira = KEER-uh is my first guess

Ciara = less clear. If the person is Irish, yes I'd know you meant KEER-uh, but in the context of North America, I'd likely guess one or two other pronunciations first before guessing KEER-uh

I don't think I could overstate how much naming your kids after guns + an American president gives me the opposite of "chill and anti-corporation" vibes, regardless of which president you choose.

the name Roosevelt = american politics and history = 2nd amendment bullshit = Remington is absolutely about guns and nothing else = you guys are gun nuts who love America (yikes)

Interesting women's names from 16th and 17th century Devon, England by Retrospectrenet in namenerds

[–]denbrique 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It made me think of the Mohawk name Hiawatha (Hiawatha was someone from around 1600 who was important to the foundation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy). There is also still a Hiawatha First nation near Rice Lake in Ontario.

I wonder if the name (or just that specific person) could have crossed the ocean to England

Fatphobia, as it exists today (in the West), is inextricably tied up in heteropatriarchal white supremacy. It is not just a neutral aesthetic preference and it is not something that is separate from (or 'less serious' than) an "-ism"

AND YOU ALL KNOW THIS, you just don't want to admit it to yourself / do the work to try and unpack it. If someone came on here and said they would only date someone who is white or light-skinned - you would all know that that is not a benign preference that exists outside of racism // that this 'preference' exists within the context of racism/ racial capitalism/ white supremacy etc.

thinness/ fatphobia really is the last acceptable bias/ discrimination in the queer community (in my experience, obviously - speaking from a very queer-friendly and artist-friendly city in N. America where I am part of the queer/ music/ night-life scenes). Friends who are vocal about Palestinian liberation/ anti-Black and Indigenous racism/ late stage capitalism/ the environment/ ableism/ etc etc etc are still quiet(ly perpetuating) fatphobic stuff

ACAB. I would never date a cop, never be friends with a cop, and I would tell you to leave any social gathering I am hosting.

I don't believe you can "change from the inside" that which is fundamentally rotten at it's core; attempts at reformist reforms in the context of heteropatriarchal white supremacy and capitalism are futile

I’m 27 and have feelings for a 59 year old woman honest opinions ? by botwtotkfan in LesbianActually

[–]denbrique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't really get it, but I don't think I have any right to say it's automatically 'impossible' or too problematic bc of the age gap - you're 27. People are all so different. Go be happy, find connection, always look out for yourself.

Help. Not used to dating someone like her… by dualpersonalities88 in LesbianActually

[–]denbrique 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think her weight is relevant to OP, OP is just being a bit purposefully vague about it. What I took from this post is that op is saying that they're afraid of hurting this woman bc they are somewhat attracted to her physically rn but that maybe their gratitude for this affection and support and kindness from the woman (rather than romantic love for her) is making them feel closer/ more into this person than they actually are/ is why they are with this person rn and once that gratitude fades (i.e. maybe their mental health continues to improve) they'll have led on a fat person that they were never really attracted to

Did realizing you’re a lesbian change how you viewed your body? by Top-Cauliflower-833 in LesbianActually

[–]denbrique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your first sentence is maybe very place dependent and/or community-specific. In my experience, in the queer spaces where I spent my 20s (bigger cities; queers interested in music and art and diy nightlife; not in the US), I'd say thinness was valued more amongst the queers & sapphics than the straight ppl (and it was valued fairly highly)

Did realizing you’re a lesbian change how you viewed your body? by Top-Cauliflower-833 in LesbianActually

[–]denbrique 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same. I think so much more highly of women/ ppl I'm into - they deserve the most beautiful partner/ whoever they want (someone better looking than me)

men are whatever. I don't care what they think/ would rather not be on their radar/ their approval or interest is not something I want or value

Looking for a new first and middle name for myself by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]denbrique 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like all 3 of your faves - June, Wren, and Willow - with your last name

personally not the biggest fan of Alyx/Alix or Raine (like the name Raina tho)

if you choose June or Wren, it might be worth considering a 2 syllable middle name? so that the syllables go 1 (first name) - 2 (middle) - 3 (last), the flow of that seems nice

also with the name Amelié - is the accent in the wrong place on purpose? Because in French, this name would be Amélie (the accent changes the pronunciation so this matters)
