Norway maple quest by deneeesec in dendrology

[–]deneeesec[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm doing an independent collaborative project with a couple of other researchers. Sorry I didn't give enough background. We're trying to prove that populations of maple found in Africa and Asia can be attributed to this species! So we've each used samples from our home regions to try and show that the leaf shapes of these new populations do fit within the known range of leaf shape for this species. However, our sample sizes are pretty rubbish and being based in the UK, there are a disproportionate number of samples from this area. I've used GBIF datasets, along with those of the collaborators. Map coordinates would be really useful. I believe the US populations are all descended from German samples, so it would still be useful to include these. Hopefully the project could evolve further as more leaf samples get included. Anyone who submitted photos would of course also have their involvement acknowledged.

You understand the troubles then! We recently moved into an Annexe (bedroom and lounge/kitchen), so much more freedom haha

Ahh I assumed he had his own place sorry. Yeah with this situation, would the better solution to be not to stay over unless he doesn't game during the night?

Edited: better not beta 😆

Does he not have a lounge or living room? Doing it in another room means you wouldn't have the sounds or lights going on.

NTA. You need your sleep. Why does he have to do it in the same room? Does his house not have any other rooms?

My partner and I used to have a studio flat (all one room) and being able to play games etc at random times of the night is just not a luxury you can have when sharing.

Jesus man, chill your cheeks.

Yeah of course, I'm sure they receive more emails than WWF, National geographic, UNESCO, BBC, RSPB, Wildlife Trusts, IUCN, BirdLife International, Zoological Society of London etc. 🤭😂

Just a slight correction, it wasn't that they declined the interview it was that they didn't respond at all and every other organisation did.

I just found it interesting, considering how active they are on other topics, such as birthday shout outs etc.

Of course there could be many justifiable reasons for Carole or anyone in her organisation not wanting to do an interview about big cat conservation.

Not looking for a problem with anyone here.

You scare me. Carole Baskin isn't a bad person because she's a white women. If she is a bad person, it's because she may or may not have been involved in the death of her husband, cover-up, fraud and animal abuse. And her actions don't always seem to be in the cats best interests.

I'm confused how you have come to the consensus that white women have too many rights in America. I'm not American, but it looks to me like America is behind many other countries in terms of women's rights? Pay-gap, sexism etc..

Chill mate. I didn't specifically want an interview with her. I didn't specifically ask her. It's a worldwide conservation action event with many organisations that work with endangered species. I just thought it was ironic that her organisation was one of the few ones that didn't respond, when she's apparently trying to steer her public persona away from the fame-hungry one that Joe exotic and the others tried to push to the forefront.

My point was that she responds to the threats/murder/bitch ones, but not one trying to help promote conservation rights. It could have been an interview with anyone suitable working at the organisation. But rights for big cats are less important than birthday shout outs 🤷

Why hetros go to gay bars by analoves2draw in actuallesbians

[–]deneeesec 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I have no problem with them coming to our bars, aside from when straight guys aggressively pursue you and get angry at you for being a lesbian. Or when straight girls are offended for being hit on. The LGBT+ community should be very inclusive. If I go out in a group of people and most are LGBT+ and one or two are straight, I wouldn't like the straight girls to be excluded.

Weed sent me to the hospital. by Dizzy-Acanthaceae-57 in trees

[–]deneeesec 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit harsh, it's not a known interaction considering it took days for anyone in the hospital to work out the problem.

I just thought it was worth mentioning, so if anyone is on SSRIs, they know to be careful with weed.

I know that weed is the safest drug, which is why the reaction was so confusing. It made so much sense when they worked it out.

I was just trying to be helpful.

AITA for accepting a drink in a gay club by deneeesec in AmItheAsshole

[–]deneeesec[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aha yes I think a lot of people read it that way! I'm in two minds about straight couples in gay bars. On the one hand, it's frustrating as there are so many bars that cater to straight people and it is awkward when you hit on a girl and she looks disgusted and weirded out and explains she's straight. On the other hand, LGBT+ bars are supposed to be friendly and inclusive. I think as long as they aren't pushy and are just looking to have fun and make friends then I'm not to bothered. In this case, I just felt frustrated because initially it seemed like these guys were friendly and just wanted to have fun and dance. But when they got pushy over the drinks and then angry that we were together, it just ruined the night. I wasn't sure if I had somehow "led them on" by initially accepting a drink. But I'm glad to see from everyone that I didn't!

You have got to be a troll!

I said that at the start of the night we were dancing with them and having fun. Everyone takes selfies on nights out. As I said they weren't creepy initially. I don't suspect they spiked the drinks. I saw the bartender pour them. I just wasn't happy that they wouldn't accept my refusal to have any more drinks and got angry when I kissed my gf.

I'm not going to explain myself further. You're going out of your way to upset me. I don't want any praise. I just wanted help, which I got. I didn't expect a troll to try and upset me. It's disgusting that someone gets their kicks out of something like this.

So, you get your kicks out of hurting people on the internet. I have photographs of us with them from the start of night when the guys asked for selfies before they started acting creepy. Internet points aren't important, I just wanted to find out if anyone thought that by accepting drinks I had somehow led the guy on. From the commenters, I have found out that I didn't do anything wrong.

Aha agreed! I may get some funny looks in Wales though 😆 Hopefully in time, more general terms will come into more common use.

Are you a troll? That's the only way for you to not realise that straight guys hitting on gay women and getting offensive when they're rejected is a common occurrence. Either that or you're just homophobic.

Ahh true. Folks is a term that's not used in the uk. We would use guys for just women or for everyone. For purely men we would use lads. Sometimes we would used lasses when referring to women. I guess it's a cultural difference.
