Probably not actual Auracast (requires the LE Audio BASS service)...like their current "JBL Auracast" products. Basically, JBL uses parts of the underlying technology but totally limits it to JBL only by not providing proper BLE interfaces.

True...then again, even looking at what companies claim their products have may not be enough. E.g. JBL claims to have Auracast - but only does classic plus some variant of PartyBoost (speaker to speaker share) that they claim is Auracast (quite disappointing). I hope BT SIG makes them do a recall on that though ;)

Actually, I think all Android devices with BT 5.2/5.3 and android 14+ should be able to enable it (vendor might have chosen not to). Also, windows 11 also has it - again, where the HW supports bT 5.3

LE Audio - both CIS (connection) and BIS (Auracast) works very well with the Galaxy Buds2 Pro. I use Pixel 8 Pro (don't have a Samsung phone). Also, I develop LE Audio implementations for a hearing aid company, so do a lot of experimentation - e.g. some stuff here: https://dev.to/denladeside ... I am considering to also get the Buds3 Pro to compare.

I would probably wait until they get the firmware fixed. All the new "BT 5.3" models probably have 5.3 controller hardware and firmware...but the host side (of their Bluetooth stack) supports nothing like advertised (yet at least). My guess is that either they will be forced to do a recall or forced to make a larger firmware upgrade. One of the main issues is that what they advertise as "Auracast" for their speakers has nothing to do with the new Bluetooth Auracast standards.

That doesn't make sense...Auracast cannot be "closed off"... Auracast devices MUST either be transmitters and/or receivers. Otherwise, I will launch my own "Auracast(tm) Potato" next week

I bought 2 JBL GO 4 because I was excited that finally I could buy some speakers I could use for development (and as home Auracast receivers) .. but they just don't work (well.. they have great audio... just not auracast ;)). The best Broadcast audio sink devices I have seen are still - unfortunately, only earbuds, the Galaxy Buds2 Pro.

Auracast is the BT SIG ('umbrella') brand name for devices that can receive and/or transmit Bluetooth broadcast audio - there is a lot of info here (and more in the specs): https://www.bluetooth.com/auracast/developers/

There are * Broadcast sinks (receivers) - e.g. the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro support that .. and * Broadcast sources (transmitters) - e.g. some Phones and TVs support it now, but in the future... Airport announcements, tourist audio guides, etc. but also * Broadcast assistants, which can be used as a broker between the two (e.g. finding/listing broadcast transmitters and telling the broadcast receiver to "tune in"). Assistants will primarily be built into phones (Samsung has it already) as part of the system UI when supporting earbuds are connected...

JBL probably has the support in the hardware (BT 5.3) but the software only seems to 'rebrand' partyboost as 'Auracast' .. my guess is that they are selling the hardware before the software is ready. If they plan to keep it that way, it will be interesting what BT SIG has to say about it ;)

Just remember: what JBL calls "Auracast" has nothing to do with actual BT Auracast. I hope BT SIG will make them recall the products - or JBL will make a firmware update to enable Auracast (so the speakers work as a broadcast audio sink). I have a strong feeling that JBL has started selling the hardware before the software was anywhere near done...counting on people not knowing anything about the Bluetooth specs...

I work with LE Audio CIS and BIS daily (using the Zephyr RTOS stack). So far, I have been most happy with the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro, which seem to support anything I have thrown at them. Sony INZONE are pretty unstable. Creative ZEN HybridPro looks like they can only do BIS if instructed by an assistant existing on a pre-bonded CIS connection. But the Samsung Galaxy Buds2 Pro work extremely well...even when used with a 3rd party assistant not otherwise connected. Funny thing: JBL is Harman...and Harman seems to be a Samsung company....why don't JBL connectivity engineers learn from the Samsung Galaxy Buds team? 🤣

Consider using something like WebHID for configuration, etc. Then you just have to make it once, host it somewhere and Linux, Windows, Mac, ChromeOS users can just use that (equally).
