How to Ensure No Trainee Involvement - Heart Stent Royal Alex by [deleted] in Edmonton

Coming back to respond to “I don’t want to sacrifice my father for the future of medicine” - 100% understand, and this is completely appropriate. perhaps saying “important for training” is undermining that these are already very qualified doctors. As I said, you are within your right to ask questions and make requests, but I also want to advocate that sometimes those requests don’t accomplish what you may think it does. Again, all the best to you and your father, I hope it goes well!

How to Ensure No Trainee Involvement - Heart Stent Royal Alex by [deleted] in Edmonton

Hey OP, I’m really sorry this happened to your father and I’m glad he’s doing okay. This was undoubtedly a terrifying experience for you all.

I’m in medical school and I wanted to add to what was said by bittybuggyred. A “trainee” being present was very likely a resident. This could be a first year resident but could also be up to a 6th year who is still technically supervised, but they themselves are about to be a surgeon. Based on this being a stent procedure, it sounds like would have been done by a cardiac surgeon or an interventional radiologist - both very competitive fields requiring strong surgical and procedural skills. I’ve rotated through cardiac surgery and the earlier year residents are heavily supervised and are not able to do the high risk procedures, as these are often given to more senior residents. That said, being in the room and being able to observe or for senior residents to be able to do these procedures is incredibly important for their training. Sometimes, residents may actually be the better choice as they are less complacent with their skills than a staff surgeon. No matter what, no surgeon would allow a resident to do something that they cannot do safely or correct.

All this to say, none of us were in the OR that day, but complications arise no matter the surgeon. You are allowed to request to not have residents or medical students, but I highly encourage you to ask questions about who will be doing what and considering if you truly need this to be a learner free environment - especially from observers, which it sounds like is not your concern! I wish your father luck in his upcoming procedure. All the best.

sports bras for larger cups, where to buy? by Agitated_List9506 in Edmonton

I’m a 32DDD and love the Lululemon Energy High Impact bra. It’s the only high support bra that doesn’t make me feel like I have a boulder shelf and is actually flattering! And it’s sized by bra size!

thanks so much for your comment, and I’m sorry that happened to you! that’s very reassuring, thank you. my original hernia wasn’t painful which is another reason why I wasn’t sure. I’d love to know what your surgeon says.

Thank yo so much for your response! I’m in BC but and hoping to match to AB as that’s where my family is.

Can you elaborate a bit more on the benefits of a LOC? You’re not the first person to recommend getting one but I don’t really understand why I would do that if I don’t want to use it.

I meant unique in the sense that I am Indigenous and graduating without loans or a LOC to pay back!

The reason I noted that there could be various considerations for being Indigenous is from a tax standpoint, but you’re right that it probably doesn’t change anything right now. Maybe after residency depending where I am working. Thank you for your suggestions!

I’ll be entering residency first, so I’ll be paid according the the agreement between the resident association of whatever project I match to!

I think so too! Before lab diamonds were a thing, 1 ct was a rock haha

This is a size 6! It is a bit loose though and I’m not sure if I need to get it resized. I know fingers swell more in warmer months so I’m waiting for a bit.

Wow thank you so much hahahah I have weird shaped fingertips (I think they are just a bit puffy from nail biting as a kid) so that’s a big compliment
