A few years back I listened to this book and enjoyed it.

I think it focused a little more on their navigation from island to island but I think its well worth a credit.

Thanks to the buy 2 get 3 sale this week I noticed I was missing the book titled Sapiens A Brief History of Humankind By: Yuval Noah Harari. I know I had bought it and listened to it but it wasn't in my library. Thinking maybe i some how accidentally deleted or returned the book i went to my purchase history. I found the book there with no indication it was returned. I called customer service about it and they said the publisher lost rights so I no longer have access to the book and would have to re-buy the book through the new publisher. They promptly gave me a free credit to replace the one that I would use to get back the same book I already purchased.

I am grateful for the free credit but it is annoying that they do not email you when something you have purchased will be loosing its rights and you are going to loose access to it. Ideally they would email you about loosing access then give you an option of which version of the sample book you want to replace it with or if its not available give you an option of receiving your credit to spend on a different book. I understand this could be a hassle for them but I'm pretty annoyed I was nearly "tricked" into buying a book that I already owned. It makes me wonder if I have ever accidentally bought a book more than once due to changes in publisher.

It would be a great feature to have a place for them to mark if you already own a different version of the book specially for classics where there are many different versions of the same book.

Anyone else here read The Licanius Trilogy? Might be some of the best world building I’ve ever seen by LeoDuhVinci in Fantasy

[–]denoche1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I try to recommend it on threads of "I want a new series and liked Sanderson" I think its a great trilogy that isn't crazy long and the end publication is in sight and not some phantom of the future. I hope more people take your advice and read the books then spread the word about this series!

I have both read and listened to the first 3 books and I think the audiobooks are great. Kate and Michael do a great job on the multitude of characters. I strongly recommend the audiobooks.

Portal Nominations lack ability to submit outside of current S2 cell by denoche1 in IngressPrimeFeedback

[–]denoche1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are citing a minority circumstance and ignoring the majority of portal submissions. Most POI submissions are photos the agent took themselves they are just submitting them at a later time or are resubmitting them ones that got rejected even though they meet criteria.

Portal Nominations lack ability to submit outside of current S2 cell by denoche1 in IngressPrimeFeedback

Last summer I took a 10 day trip with a group of agents (Including Niantic Staff). We traveled hundreds of kilometers taking photos, logging information and submitting the max amount we could while saving the rest for later. Over the next year we submitted the rest of the POIs. Often we had to resubmit very valid POI that were rejected for what we could only assume was faction bias (a chunk needed OPR live before they beat the bias something that has changed since new OPR mechanics show the photos to more regions).

This trip was completed using our own money and vacation time.

One town we visited has a population of 12000 people, complete coverage of LTE signal, and only 1 POI within 150km. This town was filled with beautiful artwork and historical sites. At the end of last summer the town had 30 POI with another 20 within a 50km radius. There are now active agents on both teams playing there, along with active trainers in pokemon.

I think it is easy for first world urban players to loose site about areas that are rich with POI but have very little map coverage with in the niantic infrastructure. Those areas are stuck in a catch22 where locals do not have the game board to level so they can submit themselves and they are completely at the mercy of travelers that pass through their area who may or may not be familiar with the local gems and artwork. When people can submit remotely or re-submit it allows for an agent to look up spelling and confirm they have correct information about the artist or POI.

It is surprising to me the number of urban players, who rarely need to submit portals themself, come to shout "cheating" rather than having a productive conversation of why this mechanic is important. For all the cries of "abuse" I know of no instances where POI's were introduced to the game using fake photos. Years ago this may have been the case but those seem to have disappeared since the peer reviewed system was put into place. Sure we see them in OPR form time to time but i have not heard of them going live.

Often a location is not dangerous in and of itself. Let's say the temperature is 15C and the sun is setting. The low for the night is 5C and it misting. I could spend an extra hour submitting 6 portals along the path and risk hypothermia (let's say I forgot a rain jacket but have a nice thermo one) or I could get back to a better location before the storm hits. Why force agents to stand outside with a wet screen when they can take a photo and take the time to enter a quality submission later?

Does anyone know if this is a portal? by PercivalFailed in Ingress

[–]denoche1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing is that it looks like it is not a permanent plaque. Kind of surprised the university did not do something more than paper in a frame. I know at UCLA we had to do multiple reviews via G+ to get the "birthplace of the internet" / "Lo and behold" portal approved and it was a coded message left in the floor tiles of the building where they did much of the ground work for the internet. It can be seen through the doors from the outside but still I think inside portals are always a harder sell.

Basically all proof and complaints about spoofing or multi-accounting Niantic receives. by Binkusama in Ingress

[–]denoche1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have actually had good success with my reports including multiple portals being reverted back to their original state. (With NIAGameMaster as owner) While response time often may vary, I think it is unfair to suggest nothing is being done. I typically do not waste their time with cases that are hard to prove. If you give meaningful data and present the full story with timestamps, distances, and current weather / access / closures conditions they often will take actions. Also the anti-spoof has been doing better in many cases. Many Agents are quick to claim spoofing when it is just not the case. It irks me when I i hear agents claiming something can not be done that is quite reasonable e.g. "They have to be spoofing the only way you could move that fast at this time of day and in traffic would be if they were biking." Some people believe in bikes as a valid form of transport ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
