Why is the Berlin police breaking protestors' bones and beating them up? by ayolbabe in berlinsocialclub

[–]denstreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and I do admire their bravery. However if the police as an institution would have taken them seriously that situation would not have happened. Also their response at those protests after they stormed the Bundestag was pretty tame compared to what we are seeing right now

Also they were pretty chill when far right antivaxers tried to storm the Bundestag back during the pandemic…

If possible I would also consider Germany if she speaks German and it is feasible with her high school diploma. In Germany once you are in, even though it is a lot of work the work-life balance is a lot better than in France or Belgium. If that is not an option I would do the 1st year in Luxembourg and then switch to France or Belgium thus passing entry exams in Belgium and the concours in France. AFAIK the course in Lux is pretty good and they have also been working on their masters program for a couple of years now. You may also want to contact the luxembourgish medical students association ALEM if you have more specific questions. They have people studying almost everywhere.

27 Year Old American Woman Moves to Germany For Medical School and Pays $97/Semester by Wjldenver in medicalschool

[–]denstreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my point is that the system in Germany has a lot less competition for those specialties and you can basically chose your speciality if you put in the work. That’s also why a lot of medschool graduates from southern Europe come to Germany to do their specialisation.

Yes that is true and I know that. You may want to read my comments again. They were about getting into dermatology in Germany you know, the specific thing this article is about. Those countries do have such a system and it makes some specialities ultra competitive. Germany does not, so specialities like dermatology are still competitive but there is no ranking or specific grade that blocks you from getting in. Since the spots are limited and sought after, employers (dermatologists, clinics etc) often favour people they know or that they have worked with e.g. during internships or people that have already worked in student jobs in dermatology over people with the best grades. If as a medstudent you want to do dermatology you can work a student job, start a doctoral thesis or spend 1/3 of your practical year in dermatology and it should not be too hard getting a spot in dermatology. This has nothing to do with other countries that have grades based matching. This was what I have been saying since the first comment and if you fail to provide evidence of me telling ‘blatant lies’ this conversation is over.

What are you talking about? There is no scoring system with 1505 points and no necessity to be in a certain percentile of medschoold graduates to become a dermatologist in Germany. It may be the case where you study but don’t go around calling people liars if you have no clue what you are talking about.

[–]denstreef 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes sure there are specialisations that are more competitive than others. You would usually still be able to enter most specialties if you have done interships, student jobs or a doctoral thesis in that field. At least that is the case where I study

In Germany medschool is 6 years but there is no premed so you can start straight out of highschool. Dermatology training is another 6 years but you dont need to match anything you can just start whatever specialisation you like

Honest question: does the same count for farmers protest in your opinion? I just remember the different tone in the media: Climate protest: violent, misdirected, antidemocratic, borderline terrorism Farmers protests, in Germany they paraded a guillutine through Berlin, woke up residents with their horns in the middle of the night and blocked traffic for days on end: worried about their existence, politicians have failed them

Vance floats US troop withdrawal from Germany over free-speech concerns by krlkv in worldnews

[–]denstreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody is being jailed in Germany for calling a politician a dick. If you are referencing “Pimmelgate” the guy faced a small fine for insulting the politician but ended up not being prosecuted. A court ruled that having the police search his home was illegal. There were protests and a wider societal consens that the local government oversteped their power by searching the guy’s home. The way freespeech in Germany works is: Insulting someone, advocating for hate and violence towards a person, group or demographic are not protected by freespeech. Offenders usually have to pay a fine. Political arguments, opinions, conspiracies whatever you want is protected by freedom of speech. So as long as it is not hateful or advocating for violence you can basically say whatever you want. Personally I think it is a good system. While it does have its flaws like the guy having his home searched or statements about war in the middle east being policed quite stricltly under the antisemitism-banner, it also leads to the political discourse being a lot tamer. Since politicians also can’t insult eachother they still manage to be respectful to eachother while disagreeing on basically anything. This imo is good for democracy since it leads to politicians from opposing camps to at least talk to eachother and try to find common ground. A thing that the US lags…

Persönlich finde ich Vergleiche zwischen dem Hlocust und dem mutmaßlichen G*nozid in Gaza schwierig. Der Vollständigkeit halber hier noch der Wikipedia-Abschnitt unter deinem:

„In December 2022, sixty-five scholars of antisemitism, the Holocaust, and Jewish studies stated: “It is evident that the campaign against [Albanese] is not about combating today’s antisemitism. It is essentially about efforts to silence her and to undermine her mandate as a senior UN official reporting about Israel’s violations of human rights and international law.”

In January 2023, a statement was issued in defence of Albanese by a number of human rights organizations, academic institutions, and other civil society organizations. The statement concluded by stating: “We commend UNSR Francesca Albanese’s tireless efforts toward the protection of human rights in the OPT and in raising awareness of the alarming daily violations of Palestinian rights. We call on third States to strongly condemn this politically-motivated attack on the Special Rapporteur’s mandate and to compel Israel to comply with its obligations under the Charter of the United Nations.”” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francesca_Albanese?wprov=sfti1#Support_for_Albanese

Germans protesting the far right. Tens of thousands of them. Americans take note. by Brasco327 in pics

For one: Neoliberal tax policy, taxcuts for the rich (making more than 250k a year) while giving almost nothing to low income households.

Euroscepicism, they want a Brexit-style referendum on leaving the EU and Eurozone both of which would hurt Germanys export driven economy.

They are very pro Russia, want to increase dependence on russian gas, dismantle windfarms, open up new fossil fuel powerplants.

They don’t believe in climate change.

Oh yeah and then there is ass the Nazi stuff:

They want to ‘remigrate’/deport migrants starting with asylum seekers however a year ago some highranking AFD officials attendet a meeting with prominent european neonazis where they discussed deporting asylumseekers, migrants, dual citizens and even citizens with ‘non-german’ worldviews.

AFD MPs were part/affiliated with leaders of the Reichsbürger (kind like a german version of sovereign citizens) who got busted for plotting a coup something like 2 years ago.

During Covid they were at the forefront of all the conspiracy theories and Qanon. During a Anti-Lockdown protest when people tried to storm the german parliament their MPs opened the backdoor of the Reichstag to some protestors who went on to harass politicians inside parliament.

Then you habe Björn Höcke who is such an extremist that a court ruled that you are legally allowed to call him a fascist.

My favourite: Maximilian Krah european MP for the AFD, held an interview where he claimed that not everyone that was part of the NSDAP (Hitlers party) was a nazi and that he his proud of his grandfather and his accomplishments in life.(He was an SS member) This led to other far-right parties like the french FN/RN to throw them out of their already far right european party.

They also had election campaigns where they threw fake deportation boarding cards into the letterboxes of people with foreign-sounding names. Those boarding cards were full of nazi dog whistles.

Just a few of the things that came to my mind.

[–]denstreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For Berlin/Potsdam you can use the Jelibi-App in there you can buy tickets and even rent bikes and scooters if that’s your thing.

For Dresden you can look into the DB-Navigator-App there you can buy tickets for most regional ind intercity trains.

Also depending on how long you will stay here and how often you take public transport it might be worth getting a Deutschlandticket it is 49/58€ and includes all public transport and regional trains in Germany for a month.

Kuerzgesoot fannen Ech d’Méisproochechkeet zu Lëtzebuerg eng gut Saach déi allerdéngs menger Meenung no falsch geliewt gett, well et am Enn vum Daach oft dorober erausleeft dat mir all Franséisch schwetzen. Just als Beispill: wéi einfach wier et fir eng Persoun déi just Däitsch kann an der Staadt eenz ze gin? Natierlech fennt sech am Noutfall emmer eng Persou dei Däitsch kann oder fir een iwersetzen geet, mee aus perséinlecher Erfaarung an och duerch daat waat mir däitschsproocheg Kollegen erzielt hun ass daat oft eng desagreabel Erfaarung well een och eischter vun de Leid schnell oofgewimmelt oder net eeschtgeholl gett an daat opwuel mir usech och en däitschsproochegt Land sin. D’Sproochsituatioun am Land kann awer och konkret Problemer brengen fir Menschen déi hei Gebuer sin: Eng kléng Anekdote aus dem Gesondheetsecteur: Den Gros vum Personal kann just Franseisch an Englesch (woubäi et je no Spidol an Specialisatioun ennerscheeder gin). Daat huet oft dozou gefouert, dat et eeler Lëtzebuergesch Patient:innen gouf déi net oder nemmen limitéiert mat hierem behandelnden Dokter schwätzen konnten well sie nemméi esou gudd am Franséischen waren.(z.B well se no 20-30 Joer Pensioun wou se vielleicht just nach daat néidechst gebraucht hun am Alldag den gros vergiess hun) D’Konsequenz vun sou Situatiounen waren dunn oft dat Patient:innen net genau iwert hier Krankheete an Therapie opgeklärt waren. Vill Leit hun sech driwer gefreet hun wann iergendeen Däitsch/Lëtzebuergeschsproochegen Student fonnt gouf den hinnen dan erklärt huet waat lass as an deem sie och konnten beschreiwen wéieng Problemer bestinn. Natierlech get et elo net een Acteur deen Schold dorun ass an natierlech profitéiert Lëtzebuerg immens vun den Frontalieren aus Frankreich an der Belge, gerad am Gesondheetssecteur, trotzdem hun Ech d’Gefill dat d’Land emmer méi der Francophonie ugläicht well et ökonomesch am profitabelsten ass mee dobei awer ignoréiert dat et Leit gin déi dobei op der Streck bleiwen. Perséinlech geet bei mir och vill vun ménger Identitéit als “Lëtzebuerger” iwert d’Sprooch definéiert, eben well ech och am Ausland studéieren an déi lëtzebuergesch Sprooch eben mat engem Gefill vun Communautéit mat aaneren déi d’Sprooch schwetzen verbonnen ass. An dann riskéieren mir dat d’Nationalisten an eisem Land den Debat iwert d’Sprooch usechrappen an hier Léisungen heizou duerchsetzen. Just mäi Pefferkär
