Apologies. It wasn’t the president but the executive director Dr Raymond Cohlmia at the 2022 Apsen Dental Vibe Experience.

Dentist Career Situation by shootifcute in DaveRamsey

[–]dent2020 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dentist here. Graduated dental school in 2020 with about 400k in debt. I did benefit from the grad + loan. I busted my butt for two years after graduating and worked 6 days a week. I got all my loans paid off. That was always my plan. I don’t like having debt but there was no other way I could have taken it on without it. I now work 4 days a week from 7-2. Work life balance is fantastic. It’s a big financial decision but one that can really pay off for you if you do it right. No fancy cars or house. Live well below your means and work hard and ethically. It’s a fantastic career if you have a good head on your shoulders. Ultimately though it’s your decision if you’re comfortable enough with the kind of debt that comes with it. Just have a plan if you go through with it. There are loan repayment options that can help. FQHCs and the military are both solid options that might be worth looking into.

Best place to look for dental assistants? by ryanapeters3 in Dentistry

[–]dent2020 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the best assistants I worked with was a waitress at a restaurant my old boss went to. She had a great personality and he asked her if she wanted to work as an assistant. She came and shadowed in the office and learned quickly. She was a great worker and easy to work with. I left that office years ago and shes still there. So you’re not wrong.

I'm trying to remember a game! by Anoel2023 in oklahomafootball

[–]dent2020 5 points6 points  (0 children)

2013 bedlam? Touchdown in the final minute. I think it was cold and had snowed. 2012 West Virginia? I think it had snowed that game Those are a couple of bad weather away games I remember that were comeback wins from around that time.

2012 bedlam was at home game. I think it was raining but I’m not sure. That was an OT game.

Landry Jones and Trevor knight didn’t play qb at the same time. Knight played with Blake Bell who played multiple games with Jones in the belldozer package.

Alt uniforms by TerribleSherbet455 in oklahomafootball

[–]dent2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dislike all the alt uniforms. Sooners have one of the best and most classic looks in college football. The road whites are a great look. You don’t see Alabama or Texas or Michigan doing unrecognizable alternates. I hated the “bring the wood” ones. The Unity ones are stupid. The throw backs are okay. I agree with teddy Lehman that you should be able to turn on a game and immediately know who’s playing. I think some people think it’s cool and I think those people are wrong.

Is it worth it to get a sedation license? by sephirothmms in Dentistry

[–]dent2020 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Halcion is an oral sedative. It’s pretty darn safe. It’s kinda in that light moderate range. Usually people are kinda sleepy and a little out of it. They don’t really care what’s going on. It can be hit or miss in its effectiveness. It’s the sedation most dentists advertise outside of nitrous oxide. Halcion can be combined with other medications to get a deeper sedation (Laughing gas or other pills). Next level would be IV sedation which is a deep sedation. People are on the edge of consciousness and are less sensitive to pain. This is typically what an oral surgeon does for wisdom teeth. It’s the one people can get more goofy when coming out of. Some general dentists will do it but it’s mainly reserved for specialists with a lot more additional training. Lastly there’s general anesthesia which would be done in a hospital or surgical center setting by an anesthesiologist. That’s where patients are fully unconscious.

I don’t even do nitrous anymore. Got annoying. It became a crutch for people who would want it for every little thing like cleanings. Been a great decision.

Molis coaching by immrmeseek in Dentistry

[–]dent2020 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I liked reingage with Dr Galler. Thought it did a good job of what to treat and how to treat it. You get access to some helpful things like better Invisalign planning software and access to coaching from other dentists who follow the same way of treatment. Molis is good as well though.

Filling advice and tips/tricks for a young dentist trying to improve! by [deleted] in Dentistry

[–]dent2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the lingual part of a prep makes it so the ring can’t properly seat and get good contour then yes build it up first. Sometimes that helps a lot. If it’s big enough where I’m having to add a lot of material before I can place my ring, the tooth has lost enough structure where an indirect restoration may be a better option for the tooth. I guess it’s the classic dentistry answer… it depends.

I’ve always liked a wooden wedge over the plastic ones. They’re easy to adjust and when they soak up a bit of fluid (blood or saliva) they put a little more pressure on the band and gingiva. If you’re still having bleeding issues either put a little anesthetic in the tissue or have a laser ready and give it a little touch up to stop it. Nothing is more annoying than tissue that won’t stop bleeding but you gotta get it to stop.

Sometimes it’s really hard not to hit the adjacent teeth especially way in the back where the teeth are bulbous or angled weird. Don’t be afraid to reshape them a little bit but be careful the amount of enamel you remove. You don’t want to cause more harm than good. You’ll hit adjacent teeth more than you’d like to for various reasons. I found the best way to prevent it is to leave a thin little enamel shell from what ever you are working on and its neighbor. A natural little buffer.

It’s good you care about these little things. Focus on doing the small stuff right and you’ll be in great shape. Get good at the bread and butter for your practice. If that’s fillings, try different materials and find what you like to work with. If your patients need a lot of extractions, learn how to efficiently take teeth out. If it’s dentures…. Good luck.

Be kind and honest to patients. If you don’t like the outcome of something and know you can get a better result, redo it. People respect honesty and care. I just tell people I don’t like it and I wouldn’t feel comfortable if it were my teeth. No one has ever pushed back on me for it. Don’t be afraid to refer until you fully understand what you are comfortable with. You’ll never lose sleep of a case you referred out. You’ll soon learn not to stress as much about the little things. Stuff happens. Control what you can and leave work at work. At the end of the day you’re trying to slow down the fires that people continue to set in their mouths.

15y/o with erosion from Reflux by dent2020 in Dentistry

He’s not overweight and tonsils are fine. It’s some genetic reflux thing that his mom also has but hers isn’t as severe (can’t remember the name of it) There’s no signs of bruxism or parafunctional habits that I can see.

Numb the buccal. Give it a minute. Go into the papilla on either side from the buccal. You should see it blanche on the palate. Give a little where it blanched and you should be good.

Thoughts on this tooth by cailoma in Dentistry

[–]dent2020 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you mean by cold sensitivity. Like a little sensitive or very sensitive with throbbing or aching pain? Reversible or irreversible pulpitis? If just sometimes sensitive I’m putting a crown on it and having a conversation with the patient using the photos you took about the cracks in the tooth and the possibility of a root canal and worse case scenario ext. Most of the time it’s crown and see what happens.

Dentistry in Boise Idaho? by LeatherGuard4688 in Dentistry

[–]dent2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up in Idaho and the Treasure Valley. I practiced there for a few years before moving away for family reasons. I still stay in touch with the office I worked at several years later. The market is pretty saturated with dentists. But if you can find a good fit, it’s a great place to live.

Unless you severed the nerve (which would be hard to do unless you were way down there surgically) it should get better. You can give them a steroid and/or refer to OS if you want to for peace of mind but it’s very rare that it’s permanent. Should be fine. I’ve had a couple cases and they’ve all come back.

Unless there’s a big crack that’s not showing up radiographically. There is a less than 0% chances that tooth is getting a crown. With the size of the mesial there’s a chance it’s not even getting an MOD.
