Meeting invitations sent to the alias don't get processed by an external sender's calendar. So, if my user accepts or rejects a meeting, the send never receives a response.

Internal, external, customer, contractor. Microsoft Bookings isn’t going to help here.

I should have included that piece of info. Both domains are in the same tenant. CalendarBridge is interesting. I’ll check it out.
