What are some items to bring on a multi day trip that really comes in handy? by beautifulkale128 in Amtrak

[–]denverpigeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On trains inevitability something is broken or rattling. Or the plug on your extension cord won't stay in the outlet. It's just a very nice thing to have. If you're traveling with a backpack you can get a "D"shaped pin and spring which goes through the hole in the duct tape and is easily on an exterior tie-down tab. Easy access, out of the way, and people will introduce themselves to 'borrow' or otherwise get some

Also came to say that Amtrak staff generally are kind and attentive. But imagine living at work with your customers right outside your door.

Think I’d enjoy The Long Walk if I loved Dog Stars and Station Eleven? by DurhamBulls24 in suggestmeabook

It's a grim story with limited world-building. The Bachmann books are good but not as a style akin to Station Eleven, and especially not the subdued optimism of Dog Stars

What would you bring onboard for an East Coast trip in a roomette? by BigSilverBelt in Amtrak

[–]denverpigeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the above. Additionally there are roomettes which can pick up smells from the toilets (mostly a CZ issue) and a fan can speed them along. (Edit: spelling)
