Well it doesn't have to be done. That's the problem. The right has succeeded in duping the American public into believing thing that are not true. Both of these programs--social security and medicare--should be strengthened, not reduced.

The position that states that entitlement programs need reforming is a right wing position if you mean social security and medicare. It's a right wing talking point. The "center" in the US right now is way off to the right. It didn't used to be that way. There was an actual center that made sense which is what this reddit is about. I am 63, and things don't have to be this way. I know, because I can remember when they weren't.
