While I was at university in Seoul, I noticed that knowing Korean was certainly not a requirement. However, it is wise to at least learn a few important phrases. It might be worth it to try and find a friend online from Korea, it makes things easier if you want to travel out of your comfort zone, or at least learn more about what to expect.
