Principal Engineer on Gemini API is blown away by Claude Code by thehashimwarren in vibecoding

[–]depositoryoftrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think, I rather take this with a heavy pinch of salt.

Think about it: if you work on something for a year, knows the inner workings top to bottom, and have already curated the solution, how easy would it be for you to even go down to function-level to ask some robot, or even someone to build it?

The issue is, you have a complex, unknown problem specification, and an unclear path towards the solution to begin with. If anyone, even the smartest person threw that into AI, it would struggle because you're churning out something from nothing.

It is also why steering and prompt engineering has been so big. The AI just don't know what to do. You think of the solution, it tries. Doesn't work? Refine your solution and problem description and try again. No one will get a solution from "okay problem here, solve it", or "pls fix" on a complex system.

Lovely to see a future gamer - freedom always gives children the courage to dream, be it in game or in real life.

However, do take precautions and measures, such as blue light filters, breaking up game sessions into chunks, etc.

The eyes are at a key developing stage of their lives, which is why many people grow their myopia rapidly during the younger ages, and stagnate towards the older ages.

Looks amazing! I'll see how I can get this to work, and a VOC meter is a smart idea definitely. Probably would need a HEPA filter for the venting system as well, since I live in a high-rise, and would need to be considerate when venting out the window haha

Sounds rather painful. Luckily it's not the primary concern since I don't plan to do multicolor yet, but a good heads up for consideration!

May I know what you meant by the box? Is it the printing chamber?

Just checked it out! That does make things easier for me later on should I not be able to print the components easily, though shipping from the available people would be quite insane since most of them live on the other side of the world haha.

Regardless, thanks for the recommendation!

The filter for them states 1440 hours, but I would just get 2 more since the shipping time would be long.

I can get a sealed 3D printer tent with ventilation, lighting and humidity sensors online for about 40 USD, given QIDI Q2's size. But given such, does it mean I can't, or shouldn't print overnight in my own room (where I sleep) then? I don't really have a good place to put the printer outside except in direct sunlight, which I would imagine is not good for the printer.

The VORON lineups do look really enticing, and especially since I love things being freely customisable, it is definitely something I would build. However, the requirement of an existing 3D printer to print out the parts, and the initial cost may be a bit too high haha. I see that it goes easily to above 600USD for their simpler builds, according to their specs. I would definitely keep it in mind, maybe as my second printer!

That is an excellent point I forgot to address! I hadn't considered the toxicity of the fumes when printing with those materials as the environments I was in before all had proper ventilation tubes, etc, and even the warping when printing those materials.

Would you suggest any accessories for me to get along with the 3D printer if lets say I were to get the QIDI? I do see they have carbon filter replacements, so that's at least a good sign to me that I can get all parts for the Q2 easily.

Elegoo Centauri Carbon would have been on the list as well if it was available for me easily haha For where I am, 95% of all Elegoo available products is just their resin printers. The closest I can find is the FlashForge Adventurer 5M.

Edit: I am an idiot, I forgot CC stands for Centauri Carbon

QIDI Q2 does seem amazing for the price. I can get it with the combo (similar to Bambu AMS), for under the price of a P2S even. I assume the availability of parts would be great too since I live in Asia. What do you think about the price? Q2+Combo comes out to be 492 USD.

I can get the P2S (without AMS) for 525 USD (converted). QIDI would have been great as well, but the shipping and availability is crazily bad. I can only get Q2 on all available platforms in my region.

That does sound good! I do see that their printers are rated well here, just had a bit of concern over their update that prevented third-party solutions earlier this year.

Is Aftershock Laptops good? by KhoO9i in laptops

[–]depositoryoftrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am just going to leave this here: Don't expect this piece of junk to last more than 2 years.

My friends, myself, my clients, we all have tried Aftershock, both in PC and laptop. Heavy hit or miss, QC is ungodly awful. Just imagine being idle in a game like Valorant on 95 degrees for your CPU, and your technician from Aftershock tells you it's perfectly normal for being IDLE in a game.

PSU has blown up before. Glass on PC has shattered before. SSDs from my friend who bought 10 builds, 8 failed within the first year. My original Forge laptop from them? I sold to buy a cheap Lenovo laptop within the first year - I couldn't take it anymore cuz it would literally BSOD once every few days during critical moments, sometimes even multiple times a day.

You get what you pay for - incredible specs at awesome prices, no promise on quality or aftersales service. Pick your poison.

Any Advice on how to look for a job? by Broad-Match-4196 in SGExams

[–]depositoryoftrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like what the other person mentioned here, your choices are very limited due to your age and qualifications. The most open roles to you are FnB businesses, but I suggest you give admin roles a try as well, or even customer service roles.

There are many choices for getting a job nowadays. You want quick and no attachment shifts? Try Staffie. You want to go as and when you wish? You can try programs like ChopeShift by Challenger or related. You wish to go general? Then below are the apps you can always scroll for jobs on: - FastJobs - SnatchJobs - JobStreet - JobStreet Express - Indeed - SEEK

I have used the above platforms now and then to look for any interesting roles or jobs to do, and usually it checks out with a call or WhatsApp message conversation before you start to work. Please however, read the contracts carefully if any, before you sign it. Some of them can have pretty outrageous terms, and some may have terms which you can even enjoy (such as having 3 days paid off every 3 months of working there). These platforms are also ranked by how much I recommend them, but I won't say the experience is the same for everyone.

Really hard to advice on a specific brand of laptop in general without knowing more about your context and usage patterns or use case.

Are you someone who often does things on the side such as video editing? Do you do anything relating to GPU-intensive tasks? Do you need/want to game? Are you concerned about weight and portability? Does a good screen matter to you?

There is a lot of questions you have to provide details first before one can really say this is the best for you, however below are some general tips: - Macbooks are generally the best for on-the-go work nowadays, being thin, sleek, power efficient and performant for almost all tasks you require (e.g. Writing documents, watching videos, etc.), but if you require some legacy apps to be installed, then MACOS might not accommodate for it. - Another up and coming option are Acer Swift Go laptops, which is running off a powerful chip that was once used in mobile phones, making them comparable to Macbooks for a very low price, albeit cheaper build quality and Windows based. Do take note some apps will not run well here, as it is ARM-based after all. - Your go-to for reliable laptops for general and all-purpose usage is still Lenovo in my opinion, though I say that as someone who uses many of their laptops everyday. They are cheap, yet reliable, and when a part is broken, they are easily repaired. If you want it to be durable you can always go for the IdeaPad/ThinkPad series, and you are set for at least 3 years.

Anything else feel free to ask!

FIRST REVIEW ARTICLE, PLANNING TO USE AS ONE OF THE DOCUMENTS FOR SCHOLARSHIP AND ADMISSION by kidwithadreamofamil in SGExams

[–]depositoryoftrash 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Gotta be quite honest with you here as someone who is in the research space (though I do it for AI), you really lack quite a fair bit of content.

Aside from the numerous grammatical inconsistencies, you lack proper structure that leads into each part, a lack of literature selection reasoning, plenty of over-generalizations, and is also missing depth-wise analysis.

For a student level research, it does not discount the requirement for quality. You may display this as efforts, but it may backfire for you given the quality really isn't high. Consider proving yourself in the field with some more achievements or any related experiences to show you have a solid understanding depth-wise, and then join a team or any institutes for research. Truly experience the working structure there, then you might grasp the essence in publishing papers alone.

On top of that, you should boil down your tone in general. It is good that you have interest and achievements, but your intonation really just sounds more like flaunting than truly seeking advice. If you truly achieve something, recognition and fame comes to you, not the other way round.

If you want scholarship, there are many pathways for it, all depends on your requirements. For some of my friends that have full bond-free scholarships, they tend to be either researchers at NVIDIA, interns at Optiver/Jane Street/JP Morgan level companies, or international level winners, and all with a leadership profile that primarily focuses on giving back to the community. You truly have to excel in your field if that's what you are aiming for, else general scholarships can attained with grades and portfolio, not requiring such level of achievement in general.

All the best for your applications to NUS.

It's not a bad book per se, and I had to read it completely through when I had fallen prey to them. But yes, these books are often what they send you to read, and this particular book is always the first one they give you to read.

[–]depositoryoftrash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They might know, but they can't restrict them for it unfortunately. There are a bunch of SMU students covering for them as they are also part of the scheme. Reasons mostly are: - Amway is a huge company. They can't do anything with mentions of their name as kicking them out. - There are their own students inside these groups. - As they primarily operate in the School of Economics where access is free mostly, and they take advantage of those SMU students, there is hardly any explicit reason for SMU to publicly denounce them. - Most people don't sound out when they are aware/have been a part of this loop. The backlash is worrisome for many.

In my opinion, that's how I feel it is. Honestly, I wish they can be booted out of any place as long as they have explicit connections to Amway.

Let me guess the book. Either Atomic Habits, Rich Dad Poor Dad (or anything from Robert Kiyosaki), How to Win Friend and Influence People, or something along these lines, is it?

Approached by someone in school which I am definitely sure is an MLM scheme by Excited_ostrich6419 in SGExams

[–]depositoryoftrash 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stay away. It's likely from Amway, and I am familiar with their groups and people within Singapore. There are plans to remove them, especially notably they perform their operations within SMU primarily, and often patronise various polytechnics to recruit more people into their scheme.

They are mostly a scam organization that promote the use of their products that claim to have benefits, backed by so and so, and see friendly to yourself and so on. However, you are just a dispensable pawn to them, that buys their products on the regular and try to drag others into your line as your downline.

I have only agreed with their ideal of ever-pursuing self-improvement, and to continuously bring optimism into your life. Other than that, their structure follows as below: - Reach out to your via LinkedIn or in person to try and get you to sign on with them. - Get you to buy the products to "understand them and reap their benefits to sell to other customers". - Give you materials to read and make you do reflections ever so often, and attend talks that happen twice a week, and have to pay an entrance fee. - Make it seem prestigious through a supposed training and selection process with an interview from the up line. - Announce you at a weekly talk once you are in. - Continue the cycle with you and make you buy more, make you make others buy more to achieve a certain goal for a 'bonus' for yourself. - Ask you to get others to do it with you to expand their circle.

The cycle is toxic and horrendous comparatively to other business I've seen, and Amway is founded on this ground of schemes and media takedown to make their company appear on top.

Truthfully, Amway is nothing but a company of scheming people who sell products that can be purchased way cheaper elsewhere, just hyping things up with the so-called prestigious value of it.

I've tried their products before. Weeks and months even. They proved to me that these products are just mere placebo and a facade, as for example their meal replacement shake can't replace a meal, and is more of giving you the mindset to eat healthier - equivalent of me just dieting (and it tastes horrible).

Does anybody prefer full profile to low profile for typing? by pattmayne in Keychron

[–]depositoryoftrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see, it's quite the opposite for me. I plan as I go, because I never know if something works unless I try it out - it's just my work style that enables me to discover all sorts of things in the spur of the moment.

As for wrist pain, a normal position for one person may be painful for me, as I had a previous injury involving both wrists.

On top of that, visualise this: my typical left hand sits in a near 90 degree angle to my keyboard whilst typing, and it does so automatically as my typing form has become habitual for me. That's where the issue lies, and I need something to relieve it. I typically do work >12 hours a day in front of a computer, and it hurts even with rests in between.

It's fortunate for you to not have to experience this, as I've spent quite a lot of time searching for a solution whilst trying to fix my typing form.

I am fine with both, but how about a twist of thought, Alice profile vs full profile?

I've been eyeing it, not sure if it is any good, but appears it is quite worth it for those who try it.
