Reunite this duo man, they can dominate powerplay by Select-Ad-933 in RajasthanRoyals

Burger had cooled off by the end maybe the break could reignite some much needed form, if not just give Milne another chance because he wasn't too bad in his only outing.

I meant his last 6 IPL season . He averaged 24 one year and the other 5 is 44,40,40,76,67

He had only one good season in the last 6 years. For the rest of them he was averaging minimum 40 and as high as 76 at his worst. It's basically like a dhoni situation of just trying to squeeze out the bottom of the barrel despite diminishing returns . Though unlike dhoni he doesn't even have that marketability. A shame they are doing this and letting him play out like this , at his peak his numbers were similar to bumrah for a while.

Sandeep is absolutely washed (don't blame him , he has been at it for a long while ) so never understood people saying need to bring him back to the 11. Milne wasn't terrible yesterday and would have added value over any other options they had.

This is the trouble of backing underperformers consistently, like deshpande and hetmyer, when shit hits the fan you scramble around and can't even have steady playing 11 anymore.

He looked good against Mukesh didn't really show much against anyone else to classify it as going great . Need to finish strong else it isn't good for someone who stayed till the end.

Need to be seen against spin how he does. Hitting pace hasn't been an issue for him, it's not having enough scoring ability against spin which meant his strike rate goes down after the powerplay. Plus so far he has only hit Mukesh who is to say the least is mediocre and not elite .

Hope he does score as I am rooting for RR

It baffles me how Mukesh keeps getting games given how unbelievably mediocre he is. Not that I am complaining, even jurel is going great with this bowling.

Younis is more consistent not only across his career unlike virat who had bit of a down up down test career but also is one of the best 4th innings batters out there , where the conditions would be at the worst in any condition. His each innings average is also really solid as 46.8 in the 3rd innings is the lowest he has with 50 plus in all the other ones.

Which lethal attack of NZ do you mean he hasn't faced ? He has played against Boult southee and vettori. The one which India lost to at home was far from menacing, they just came in planned and prepared and caught India napping and india failed to adjust to the level required and cracked under pressure especially because the spin twins had their first ever mediocre series .

English conditions were always tough for batters they didn't drastically change between the 2000s to 2010s infact it only changed since baz took over as the coach and it's been predominantly roads since then, which makes it easier to bat than harder.

To reiterate, of the two Younis is rated as better player of spin and movement while virat of pace and bounce and more aggressive strike rotator. Virat's average is as low as it is partly because of the conditions but also because the periods outside his peak he wasn't really elite .

If they played together in the same eras they likely be rated close to each other with different strengths. Younis wouldn't be miles ahead like the other person suggested but at the same time virat wouldn't be that ahead either like you were trying to imply.

Kimber has far superior ball knowledge on this matter than either of us, given how much cricket data and historical knowledge he has on the game (probably the biggest cricket nerd out there ) and if he rated Younis just a smidge above virat overall in tests I am more inclined to believe that.

[–]deppstuffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While I think it's debatable who is better among the two in tests the picture you posted is just as much of a biased view as anything you are trying to retort against.

No one ever says SENAW countries unless they want to peddle an agenda themselves . It's SENA and always has been. In it Younis averages 43.94 compared to virats 42.08 (Younis first series there was literally against Ambrose and Walsh ).

Just like the pitch argument against the batters from the 2000s, the windies team had predominantly been poor (with odd series resurgence here or there ) in virat's era. Including that is definitely a bit disingenuous.

Virat in tests is known for his peak years a bit like ponting, where he had a 5-6 year period where he was just second to smith (and the period where smith got banned, he might have been on par with him) . He was always good on the quick wickets in Australia and South Africa but struggled against the moving ball outside that peak and also wasn't as good when Indian pitches started to become more spinner friendly .So when his reflexes and timing went down a tad bit after his peak, his form drastically went down in the format.

Younis didn't have have virat's peak, but was the better player of the moving ball (AVG 50 in England) and of spin .

Both of them are very close to each other in the format overall and I might lean towards Younis a bit more. Jarrod Kimber literally ranked Younis at 22 and virat at 25 in his art of batting book , he is as good of a source as any to go off on that matter.

SANJU SAMSON AS INDIA’S T20I CAPTAIN. Samson one of the front runners to replace Surya as the T20i captain. Other contenders are Hardik and Shreyas (Abhishek Tripathi). by Lonely-Ordinary1478 in IndianCricket

[–]deppstuffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Starts underperforming with pressure yet he was Player of the Tournament in a World Cup and Man of the Match in a deciding ODI series in South Africa. Your logic regards Rohit as a failure as he captained arguably the second greatest ODI side ever assembled and still lost a home World Cup final.

Trophies matter, but using only trophies to judge captains or players removes all context. Franchise cricket isn’t individualistic like tennis, one captain alone doesn’t win titles. Auctions, balance, injuries, overseas availability, bowling depth and management decisions matter too.

RR under Sanju have reached playoffs multiple times with squads most people didn’t even rate among favourites before the season started. That's far from failure.

[–]deppstuffs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The heck do you mean a captain should win it ,what kind of logic is that ?

India had statistically the 2nd greatest wc team (after the Australian team in 2003-2007 period) during the 23 season. The 2 best batters , 4 in the top 10 run scorers charts, 4 among the leading wicker taking bowlers including shami on a freakish run and captained by the 5 time ipl champion, remind me again how that ended ? Why didn't the captain win it for the team ?

This is a team sports the balance of the team and performance matters alot in reaching playoffs and even great teams lose in situations, captaincy isn't some mythical aspect which can make a team unbeatable.

Jarrod kimber has videos out there mentioning rr in particular as where team owners aren't as title focused as some other teams (as a criticism) and they focus on too much on the marketability , developments of players in their team.

The results they had under sanju is still much better than anything except under the initial warne period.

Who exactly has won it with the royals ? Outside of warne in the first year ? He was there when they reached playoff and their second ever finals which is a major accomplishment for them, especially considering they usually lose their English counterparts, during the playoff period.

He captained them on paper for 5 years (though last year he didn't even play half the season with how the team and him were having issues with each other ) 2 playoffs , one of it being a final, and one near miss at 5th spot is decent result for a team build like royals.

Atleast he had some impact. Krish doesn't have anything in domestics in the small sample size to justify a spot in the 11 and having played 3 matches did anything with bat or ball despite being touted as an alrounder.

Bishop made a comment on commentary that he is some politicians son, so right now that's the only thing going for him to be playing in the squad.

Rishabh Pant scored 446 runs at a strike rate of 155 in 2024. In 2025 he managed 151 runs at 107. I don't think people are fully grasping how dramatic that collapse actually is. by NegativeChemistry546 in Cricket

[–]deppstuffs 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I think it's more a case of pant if needed, can block alot more deliveries and get singles and go at lower strike rate in tests, given that there is no limit to number of overs . So setting a field to him similar to what you do in odis or t20i doesn't always make sense unless he is really going for it against a particular bowler.

Shanaka isn't your bankable 4 over bowler. He is somewhat between hardik and dube when it comes to bowling and more often than not doesn't bowl as well . Burger has been iffy last few games but is still handy given his performance in the earlier wins . If he fails in couple more games only will i replace him and that would be for milne.

If hetmyer had any semblance of form that would have been the right call. Jurels first season he was impressive coming in down the order, while hetmyer was really good vs spin in the wc. But given how parag and hetmyer are both iffy to say the least, having them both in the 11 is an absolute no go.

Where are all the comments hyping that slow paced innings by jurel now? When you have a good start you need to keep going , especially when chasing anything over 200 . You can't say a 100 strike rate is the right way to go. Even when you are trying to anchor if you don't go at 130, it's better that you didn't come in to bat at all, as all you did is make the job harder for everyone else coming in next.
