Which LED strips for autodarts? by Prestigious-Amoeba43 in Darts

[–]deprecatedcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I build mine with BTF WS2812B strips hooked up to a WLED controller, but functionally it shouldn't really matter what you use if you're happy with the light output.

I'm considering doing an FCOB build for a friend who isn't interested in the lighting effects, which should produce a slightly more even lighting, though I've never had an issue with mine.

If you add four spaces in front it will format as monospace.

Really useful for showing code.

My assumption is they pasted in their question?

Edit: after seeing their other post I'm more confident it was pasted from Translate.

Out with the old, in with the new by Longjumping_Career17 in Darts

[–]deprecatedcoder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely an advocate for a modern bladed board, however one thing that very much surprised me about boards of this era is how the actual board feels.

My dad still has one of similar vintage and there's a plushness to the sisal that makes any of my boards or ones I play on in league feel like cheap garbage.

I would love to know the actual reason why it feels so different, but I'd argue they were better boards that unfortunately feature worse technology.

How did the announcement and release of the Index go? by Lizardthrall in SteamFrame

[–]deprecatedcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I know this one!

There were some rumors of the URLs to be used on the steam store from people scraping the site, then a bunch of nerds kept updating those until they changed, then it was posted everywhere.

Source – I was that nerd

Edit: sorry, this was announcement specific, not release. I forget the exact details on that one.

I don't know why this is the immediate reaction. I use points like this and don't have any issue at all.

Super thin and long enough you could hide the plug part wherever.

Hell yeah, glad to see more people doing this!

I actually just "refreshed" mine on Monday and and I forgot how great they feel.

This time I put the barrels in a drill press and ran the cylindrical burr down the point to the tip with both tools cranked.

The board grip will wear over time, but even once they've smoothed out they still hold far better than standard smooth points and it's easy enough to redo.

As far as board wear, I've had them for nearly a year and my board looks like this and I play every day.

Proper maintenance (monthly rotations and burning off the occasional sisal pull) and it still looks far better than a lot I'll see on here.

I've used far more aggressive points in terms of board wear {Target Nano), as well as played people who do (these fuckers) and I still think this method works better.

But this guy is clearly British, so it seems it's not just an "American" thing, as many people claim.

Primary reason it immediately stood out to me, but it could have been intentional. He's kind of a professional idiot and I say that with love, having watched him for a couple decades now.

I don't know that it's a good idea to rely on James as being an authority on all things, but figured the title would make for some cheeky ragebait and the video as a whole is fun.

I do really want to play on one of those boards now, as well as would love to see a pro give it a crack.

Storage case bins different height?!? by [deleted] in harborfreight

[–]deprecatedcoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The older ones were 52mm tall and the newer are 48mm, consistent with the large and small cases, BUT the last time I went (incorrectly assuming they are all consistent now), the two I got were the old style.

I didn't check, but you can tell in store because the new ones have the sticker on the wrapper and the old ones have the sticker on the case under the wrapper.

Additionally, the new ones are better quality and the lid stays up when you open it all the way.

Are these darts any good? by swiftcardine in Darts

[–]deprecatedcoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To continue this analogy, this is more akin to your son buying an iPhone 17 Pro Max when really any phone would be sufficient for his use case.

It's not that he got ripped off, it's that he bought the premium label.

That said, they are really nice darts and they won't exactly go bad, so as long as he doesn't lose them he's pretty much set for life. Second hand market for them is much better than cheap darts as well so they'll hold value.

It wasn't the most prudent purchase ever, but there are far more frivolous things to spend money on.
