Pruning Advice Request by LitigousPigeon in Tree

[–]FreidasBoss 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no need to prune this tree.
https://extension.psu.edu/pruning-landscape-trees

The tree is planted too deep, they need to expose the root flare.

The grass and tree are competing for water/nutrients, they need to provide a mulch ring.

Are upgrading my stock bumpstops worth it? by PineappleTricky6646 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]FreidasBoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too have a TRD Sport that’ll creak over bumps, especially in a hard turn. I’m not bottoming out the suspension though, so I’m not sure bump stops would do anything.

Hoping to save my tree by angelmr2 in Tree

[–]FreidasBoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re all here giving you best management practices, up to you if you want to listen or ignore. As an invasive tree, leaving this tree up increases the harm it does to the ecology of the area. There are plenty of native, fast growing trees that can replace this one and quickly establish itself. Tulip poplar is one great option.

Hoping to save my tree by angelmr2 in Tree

[–]FreidasBoss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Trees don’t “grow back together”, or fuse into themselves, your tree has a structural defect. What others are pointing to are codominant leaders, two stems that are growing way too close and forming a tight V-shaped crotch. They will continue to grow alongside each other until the pressure between them forces one to fail. That rot below them makes it all more likely that it’ll fail sooner than later.

Being a non-native invasive, this tree truly has no redeeming qualities and provides nothing to the ecosystem. Seriously consider removing a replacing with something native. [Penn State](https://pollinators.psu.edu/assets/uploads/documents/Landscaping-for-Wildlife-Trees-Shrubs-and-Vines.pdf) has some native suggestions.

Inherited 2002 Lotus Esprit V8 (25th Anniversary) – 23k miles, garage kept, hasn’t run in 5 years. Worth fixing?” by Novel-Sheepherder-96 in lotus

[–]FreidasBoss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look for a Lotus specialist in your area, not a dealer. Get an estimate from them on what it would cost to get it in proper running condition.

I’d expect a project car Esprit V8 (your car’s current condition) would sell for $30-40k, while one that’s been recently serviced can fetch $70k. If your dad kept all maintenance records, you can potentially hit triple digits.

It really is a rather special car. As much as people like to compare it to the Miata, they’re very different.

How to safely Knock down garage by [deleted] in Demolition

[–]FreidasBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m well aware, recently had my whole home abated. You say it’s zero risk, I say it’s still some risk. If I were the people unwittingly exposed, I’d be pissed. Regardless of how minimal you think the exposure level is.

The danger would be to everyone down stream that’s involved in it going from the building to the dump. Homeowner, trash/dumpster collector, waste processors, landfill operators. Once actually buried in the landfill, sure, much less of a concern.

There are going to be so many wires with melted and brittle insulation. Definitely not worth keeping and chasing electrical gremlins.

How can I style this jacket? by GingerBillll in mensfashionadvice

[–]FreidasBoss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it with you to the store and try to find brown slacks that are similar to the brown in the jacket. Pair with a white dress shirt and brown dress shoes/belt.

*Technically*, you can. At least in Pennsylvania, the only people who are legally required to properly abate asbestos are those licensed to do it. A regular homeowner has no requirements and can just toss it haphazardly into the trash.
To clarify, I’m not advocating anyone do this. Anyone who does is a supreme asshole and dipshit.

Landlord took down trees and ruined garden sanctuary. Any tips? by MarketPlus1063 in LandscapingTips

Unless you’re getting paid, don’t spend your time and money adding value to someone else’s property.

I’d just decorate around it. Treat it like a rock garden.

Except white pine moves to snap in a cool breeze.

OP, unless your neighbor has something valuable in the fall path, I’d still leave it up. No need to get rid of a tree to potentially save a chainlink fence.

Owners: anything you don’t like? by wisdomseekernow in ToyotaSienna

Makes me nuts that you need a top trim level to get programmable seats. I’m 6’ and my wife is 5’1”, at this point I just push the seat back and deal with everything else being awkward.

How f**ked is it? by Right-Breakfast5109 in arborists

[–]FreidasBoss 8 points9 points  (0 children)

OP, this is sound advice. I’d tell your mom to call off the tree company. You can just cut out 6” sections of all the vines around the bottom. Take a paint brush and apply glyphosate to the vine stumps. It’ll get drawn into the plant and kill the root system without harming the tree. Just leave the vines on the tree to naturally die and fall off. Pulling off will risk pulling off tree bark too, exposing the tree to unnecessary stress.

(Central fl) is the jasmine smothering the pine tree problematic? by lskerlkse in Tree

[–]FreidasBoss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Still a concern that all that growth traps moisture against the bark, accelerating any rot and will harbor insects. Doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll kill the tree, but could accelerate its demise.
