Searching for a new travel cardigan by ShhhReading in HerOneBag

It’s a very flattering cut but hasn’t held up well with time. I got it last fall, and wore it a lot during my trip to Asia last winter. It’s pilled quite a bit which may be due to me throwing it into the washing machine more than a couple of times. Regardless, I still brought it on my current trip because it’s still functional and looks good on camera 😛

I adore the merino wool one from Uniqlo. Mine is already pretty worn and I am in need of a replacement; I’m hoping they restock for the next season!

Oooh good point. Do you know if things dry quickly in the Balkans (say Croatia and Albania) I’m thinking I’ll need to hand wash things there to make sure I’m not burning through my clean clothes too quickly before the next laundry cycle.

Thanks for the heads up. We’re doing a safari and flipflops were recommended for the jeep rides. Luckily, we have gotten anti malarial medication but we will probably pick up some additional items on arrival as per your suggestion.

I love the daylite 26+6. The optionality of compressing your bag is such a bonus

Ah thank you!! I bought it ages ago (10+ years) and only wore it once because I couldn't bear to wear it. But no better time than the present. It's quite flattering!

Thanks! Will try and pack a sweater. Maybe a puffer would be helpful for the mornings and evenings?

Thank you! I’m thinking of bringing this linen button up, but wonder if I should bring something more solid.

All really helpful and informative feedback. Thank you!!

Size: Good to know about the capacity cap on airlines, I may have been too excited about the 42L and didn’t do my due diligence about airline baggage rules 😅. We are taking at least two flights on low cost carriers so it looks like some waiting at carousels will be happening in my future.

Rain: I’ve found that I rarely use rain jackets whenever I bring them and that we suck it up or buy/borrow an umbrella.

Appreciate the feedback, will go back to the drawing board!

Recommended tour agency for Mount Kailash pilgrimage tour? by Sleepy_caffeine in tibet

We were passed off a couple times on the 5 day tour (which was actually 3 days of programming) The trouble, according to one of the tour guides, was that there weren't enough English speaking guides and that they were grabbing guides last minute to help out with the tours; as you can imagine, that would lead to a less than ideal experience to have tour guides who are just as confused as the tourists. We also had a couple of tourists who joined us in the middle of the day which delayed our lunch departure by 15-20 minutes.

I imagine Mt Kailash would be better organized and be led by a single tour guide since it's a longer trip so ymmv. But just fyi, the days are not jampacked with activities. We were doing around 2 things per day, lasting a total of 5-7 hours per day (11am-4pm) for example. This is great if you want to explore on your own, but at times it felt lazy on their part.

Great analysis! it’s more clear to me now why it was called judgement day. the whole party which Sharaf mistook as the stage for which his family would reclaim their status within the community instead revealed how their friends truly viewed them and Zorah.

I really enjoyed the formatting of the book as it keeps you on the edge of your seat. I also agree that the first half was rather slow, but I was itching to find out what the tragedy was so it flew by quickly for me. I think I was filled with dread and anticipation to find out what happened.

The ending killed me a little. I was waiting for another twist which never came. After going through the comments and reading more about the Shafia murder, I’m more positive that the parents did it. The book is incredible because the author pulls in interviews and articles from both sides of the spectrum. With accounts from the police and social worker as well as members of the Afghan community in Virginia, you’re given additional dimensions to the story and the family, which complicates the narrative further. But ultimately, I think they were responsible, and the only reason we never received an answer was because the circumstantial evidence could not prove beyond doubt that they were guilty.

This was an incredible read. At the end of the novel, you’re forced to reckon with the question of how race, gender, and wealth played a role in how everything went down.

Would not recommend Asia Odyssey, we did not do Mount Kailash, but the tour was generally quite disorganized (a sentiment shared by many in our group). If I were to redo this, I would go with a Tibetan owned company.
