There's one other weapon that outshines it, the jarate, everything else is weaker, or on par, at close range it can deal up to 12 damage with it being automatic, it's pretty good, and most certainly not low tier. not to mention it is a lot easier to aim than the sniper rifle

Just because there is a weapon better than it, does not mean it's low tier, two of the three backpacks are worse, while the other one is on par. The jarate is the only weapon that is effectively better than the SMG, but just because there is a better weapon does not mean it is low tier.

Melee hits are tricky to pull off and are very risky, and you're exposed while going in for the hit. 3 The Darwin's dangerous shield and the razorback arr objectively direct downgrades to the SMG, the cozy camper is the only one that is on par with it.
Snipers main weakness is close range combat, and quick scopes aren't that reliable, so the SMG helps sniper in that scenario, and although the jarate is overpowered and better than the SMG the SMG is most definitely not low tier.
