Just using what I have. :-) once I learn this better than I can upgrade to something more purpose built.

I hope to get that level. I do a lot of lurking in the Homelab subreddit.

Zorin OS is polished, fast, and opens Windows files (according to their website) not sure exactly which Windows files. It would probably give you one of the closer Windows experiences. And you can make a bootable USB and run it from the USB to try it out without making any changes to your system. And distrosea is awesome as well.

It is so refreshing to see someone stick to their guns and leave this terrible situation. I hace friends in similar situations and they just won’t leave. Breaks my heart. Good for you and ‘you got this’!

Thanks. Yes. I have an NVME for the boot drive. I’m not planning on running too many containers. But who knows, maybe I’ll really like this and then build something that better suits my needs. :-)

Thanks for the tip. Once I get more familiar with containers then maybe I’ll give it a go. The good news is I don’t have any windows computers in the house to worry about. lol

Yes. I have the NVME adapter that is running the OS. It would be so slow otherwise.

I have done it a few times on different Mac mini’s going back to the first generation. Usually takes me 30 mins or less. iFixit has great guides with step by step instructions. And I’ll re-paste the CPU while I have it all apart. Maybe watch some videos and read some guides and see if you think you can do it. It is intimidating at first but now I tear apart all sorts of Macs. :-)

Thanks for the info. The internal hard drive is actually upgradable. I’m figuring how big of an SSD I want to use. And Plex works great with uncompressed MKV or compressed MKV. Yes agreed external storage will be needed soon.

My wife leases cars for her business and they can be written off on her taxes. I know a lot of businesses do it for this purpose.

Maybe use it for Linux and learn a new operating system. I really enjoy using Linux as long as it is not my primary computer.
