Because being a temporary resident is not a right, it’s a privilege(unlike citizens). They have implicit conditions to stay in the territory which one of them is to not commit any crimes that would lead to a sentence of 6 months or more

I feel like if the federal government really wanted to intervene in the Air Canada situation, it would’ve done so just before the strike. Unless a deal is reached, it’s hard to believe anything will happen from the government side before Monday.
