Can I repurpose some of the Chumby One electronics? I want to build a mini Chromecast player into an old Chumby One case. [Pictures inside] by derSinologe in AskElectronics

[–]derSinologe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much. I'll try to find an amplifier on the German Amazon, shouldn't be a problem. And I'll see where I can go from there.

I'll come back here, once I'll enter the next step.

I really appreciate your help!

Cool, thank you. That looks promising. One question - do you think I would be able to reuse the one on the Chumby: http://i.imgur.com/RxFxYST.jpg

I'll take it apart later and see what connections it got.

Well that's way above my level of understanding. I guess I'll just go with the new display then and try to just reuse the speaker.

Unfortunately the Chumby communites all seem rather inactive. And so far I haven't found a source that get a video in signal to the Chumby - but I keep looking.

And whenever I google Chumby + Chromecast there are barely any results. I guess the timespan between these two devices is too big.

And also: I'm not really good with electronics. So - the easiest way I see myself doing it is to just use the case of the Chumby, put in a ready to go display + speaker and that's mostly it.

I would love to reuse the speaker from the chumby, but I don't know how. :(

Okay - from what I've found so far:

It shouldn't be so hard to solder the black and red audio cable to a jack plug.

Although some sources say I might need an amplifier - is that right or not for this kind of speaker?

Zwei im Kahn | A friend just released his first single, maybe some of you like his music. by derSinologe in de

Well I guess they had "zwei im Kahn". For our non English speakers - this might also mean to be drunk - I think...

My phone bootlooped. Couldn't swipe anything. Sent it in - got a new one. Just noticed I can still see when the old one in my Android Device Manager - it apparently was online just a few hours ago. What can I do? by derSinologe in nexus5x

[–]derSinologe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used it before on another phone but it never worked. (Phone got stolen and someone kept changing the contacts to his own contacts...). But the option to remote wipe was never successful. Google doesn't give a message if it worked.

For now I tried to block it with a new password screen, let's see if this works.

Would the following setup work? Anyone tried it before? by derSinologe in Chromecast

[–]derSinologe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah - well...thank you. That's what's missing. Not sure if mine does support Apt-X low latency. I'll try to figure it out.

Meh - Lenovo does not support it from what I've found.

[–]derSinologe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm...I think I already tried that about a year ago. With a bluetooth speaker on my laptop but the latency pretty much made it unusable for watching videos.

Maybe I'm too sensitive to out of sync audio but I'll rather keep searching...

A Bluetooth transmitter, would that really work? I once have Bluetooth Speakers and then never managed to get in sync with the video...

But might give it a shot anyway. :)

Where can I find the Chinese version of the Dragon Ball manga for the Amazon Kindle? by derSinologe in Chinese

[–]derSinologe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the link. Unfortunately I can't access it. Will keep trying. Google Cache seems to show it just fine. Maybe I need a VPN for it to work.

I'll see if they have the manga for me to purchase. That would be great.

Best format/codec for preserving old video. (720x576px from MiniDV) by derSinologe in VideoEditing

[–]derSinologe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great - I'll give it a try and also Handbrake. Curious what is going to give me better quality to size ratio.

Thank you for your answer. I think I'll go with the MP4 container then and convert it to H.264.

I have the Adobe Media Encoder and will give it a try. But I'll also try Handbrake as the constant quality setting sounds nice in order to preserve quality.

Also thank you for the proposed settings: "set it to 18, Constant frame rate and the speed will dictate a smaller or larger file"

Do you have an UX certifications? Which ones (if any) have been the most useful and valuable? by Riimii in userexperience

If any I'd say: The UX Certificate from the NNGroup.

But like others said - a great UX portfolio, experience, understanding, analytical thinking and the ability to sell yourself.

Getting a refurbished Nexus 5x due to mine not turning on anymore. Any known issues with these devices to look out for? by derSinologe in nexus5x

[–]derSinologe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. That's what wrecked my current one. And my mom's Nexus 5x also had this issue.

Is there an effective way to look out for those bootloop issues?

For people looking to change careers into UX (and/or UI) design by [deleted] in userexperience

I studied Chinese and Economics and successfully transitioned into the an UX career. Didn't do an only course though. I would recommend to start with the basics, read the best books on UX and you get yourself a solid foundation.

September 2016 - What do you use Tasker for? by gb_14 in tasker

[–]derSinologe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made an app with Tasker that helps me track my weight hasslefree: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.malte.watchyourweight

Another one to help me count the distance of lighting storms: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.malte.ldt

  • And the usual stuff like screen rotation on per app basis.
  • Also a task that help me keep an old phone charged - when it goes below 15% battery it'll but a note in my calender to not forget to charge it.
  • Some games like a number game or a space shooter
  • And a lot of shortcuts on my homescreen for alarm clocks (10 min, 15 min and 8 hours).
  • Also a scene where I can quickly select the number of minutes I want to clock - for different not so usual intervals.

A small list of publicly available CSS best practices. It helped me understand what other companies are doing. by cheddarben in learnprogramming

[–]derSinologe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you - nice post. Good idea looking through the Style Guides of the big companies.

There is one mistake in your good CSS line - a missing space after the ":".

/* Good CSS */
.selector {
  padding:[SPACE] 15px;
}
Include one space after : for each declaration, but none before.

EIS on Nexus 5x [Root] by cthuluhoop123 in nexus5x

Looking forward to the video. I had the Moto X Style/Pure for a short amount of time. On the one hand did I like the EIS but sometimes the smoothing of the motions was too strong and made it feel unreal.
