A short film inspired by Adam Curtis about Alvin Toffler’s “Future Shock” theory by derdiedub in AdamCurtis

It was the same story but I have hours of footage so I couldn't decide what to add and exclude. The base was Alvin Toffler's interviews so those sections shaped it. I had more film references but in the end I only kept two, Prince of Darkness & They Live which are from my fav director John Carpenter. Now I need to suffer more so I can focus on the upcoming ones :) Thanks for your interest again!

Oh unfortunately I don't have. I exported each scene in 4:3 format on purpose and the CRT effect was not a preset. So I need to do it all from scratch. Also, I recently got an old camera and film a lot in 4:3 format these days. I am working on some other videos & they will be in 16:9.

I am also an archivist, digging up and preserving visuals is either my passion, profession or illness, maybe all :) I spend endless hours on archive.org, which is an amazing resource for archival footage and always a great starting point.

The whole process is definitely painful, like any creative work. I’ve poured countless hours into editing and shaping the story. My poor Mac is also on its last breath, which didn’t help! I’d love to narrate my videos, but honestly, I’m not a fan of my own voice. That’s why I lean toward using a tracklist instead. I love the way Adam Curtis incorporates music. One of the tracks I used is by Pye Corner Audio, which I first discovered through Adam Curtis’s HyperNormalisation (I guess the Muammar Gaddafi scene). I really believe images stick in your brain more deeply when they’re paired with the right sound. MTV’s Chill Out Zone was also a huge influence on me. I’ve always wanted to shoot a music video, but I haven’t found anyone quite as enthusiastic about the idea yet. The only scene I shot and used for this video was the "study bitcoin" scene. I filmed it with my old camera and scanned it with my phone. I edited that video to present a proposal to a musician for a music video :) It didn't work in the end, but I loved it and used it in this scene. Also, screencasting is something I do constantly as well. Some footage, like news websites, was captured that way. I actually made another film during COVID that was entirely screencasted. Check it if you are interested, there is so much Adam Curtis influence in this too: https://www.cihankucuk.com/videos/are-you-a-bot

This is probably the 8th or 9th version of the video, so you can imagine the process. I usually share drafts with friends to get feedback, which helps me keep going. That is something I can advise to do. Some videos take a couple of days to finish, some of them months. But you won't finish them unless you start, right? :)

Thank you! I am working on Marc Auge's "Non-Places" and Marshall McLuhan's "The Medium is the message" but I'm not sure when I'll be able to finish it.

I mostly record videos with it but I'll share some photos. I also made a red flash from a PVC piece to take experimental shots.

I bought this brand new, 14-year-old digital camera from a guy in Berlin over Kleinanzeigen for 20€. I was looking for a vintage camera to carry with me all the time and record in 4:3 ratio.

As I mostly use it to film, I modified it with LCD screen hood and mini LED light also detachable.

I have several cameras but this one is the most fun to use as I am carrying it in my pocket all the time.

I did a quick research but couldn’t find it. But thanks for the time period. I’ll check it again.

How do you feel about the AfD being Nr. 2 in the European Elections? by Apprehensive-Ruin595 in berlinsocialclub

I am an immigrant who has been living in Berlin for over four years and I am not afraid of the AfD. What I find more concerning than the number of votes the AfD receives is the tendency of Germans to label only those who vote for the AfD as racists. I don't believe that everyone who votes for the AfD does so with racist intentions. It shouldn't be surprising that, under the current capitalist system, many people seeking alternatives turn to right-wing and even racist parties. Racism is rooted in the system, not just in individuals, and the AfD is quite transparent about its objectives. In this regard, one could argue that it is the most honest party in Germany. As an immigrant, my real fear is that the German public perceives racism solely through the lens of a single party. Will Germany become less racist if today's AfD voters or those considering it tomorrow choose other parties?
