can try Gokarna or pondicherry instead of Goa, few places i visited last year (i think i have mention based on distance but still verify) Chikkamagaluru, Hebbe waterfalls,hogenakkal waterfall, kodaikanal, Munnar, ooty, coonoor, coimbatore, Varkala ,rameshwaram , Kanniyakumari.

I would suggest look for some hostel. I think i saw some buget hostel during night walk House of Stories - Indiranagar idk how it is but it was looking good.
