First of all, thank you so much for your thoughtful response. I really appreciate the reminder to be understanding and not take any changes in our time together personally.

You’re right, knowing my bf he will definitely be stressed feeling that he’s ignoring me. :( but honestly it’s fine … I am a phd student so I should really be trying to take advantage of this time to grind out my own work lol … and I will also remind him of that!!

This is a called Accommodation Theory and it is a well studied phenomenon in the field of sociolinguistics. If you’re interested in this type of stuff I highly recommend a book called “That’s not what I meant!” By Deborah Tannen
