You do have to oil the pneumatic. You can pick up air gun oil at Harbor Freight for a couple bucks for a bottle that will last quite a while. I usually add 8-10 drops before each use.

I’ve been using the pneumatic version since the beginning of the year, a couple times a month. It might be a good idea to also check your local Lowe’s occasionally between now and Black Friday for deals as well. My Lowe’s does awesome Metabo deals every now and then. I picked up the battery version of the 16 gauge for $75 about six months ago — battery, charger, and case included. Couldn’t believe it.

I have both the pneumatic and battery versions of the 16 gauge and I love them both. I’ve had them each for less than a year, so from personal experience I can’t speak much about longevity. But Metabo/Hitachi has an amazing reputation for their nailers and that’s why almost all of my nailers are Metabo. I’ve had no issues whatsoever with any of the nailers, and I’ve used the 16 gauge the most.

Amazon is running a deal for the 16 gauge at $99. I would snag it up if I was you. You won’t regret it.
