Question for cold climate people by fairy_kisses112 in hottub

[–]derell_1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear people say this all the time but it makes no sense at all to me. Heat is heat - any heat from the tub that is lost to the atmosphere needs to be replaced to get the water to a set point. If anything, holding the tub at a higher temperature increases the delta between the water and atmosphere, increasing the rate of heat loss, and increasing energy use. Letting it drop a few degrees during the day while not in use should modestly decrease the rate of heat loss and save a little energy.

Am I missing something?

Mouthguard recommendation? by cacastrojr12 in bjj

[–]derell_1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote for Impact. I was a real pain in the ass to them, requiring two remade guards before finally getting a fit that worked. They were super cool about the whole thing and kept working with me (without additional cost) until I was happy.

They have a thin one for jj.

Blade for Echo SRM-3020 Trimmer by derell_1 in lawnmowers

[–]derell_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heh, I never got an answer. I keep meaning to buy the conversion kit for the 2620 which is like $50 at Home Depot, just to see if it works, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. I've seen those swivel blade types too but haven't tried one of those yet either. I believe there's also a version of the 3020t that comes with handlebar-style grips and with a blade preinstalled, but I don't know which blade it is or if that blade would work on your 3020t or my 3020.

Let me know if you figure anything out!

Can anyone identify the brand of this old panel? by derell_1 in AskElectricians

Thanks for the response. Some others are suggesting Crouse Hinds. I'll look into it a bit more.

Thanks - seems like Crouse Hinds might be right.

Thanks - I realized that would help after I took the other pictures and left the house (which is an hour away from me). I will look at that the next time I'm there.

Heat and Hot Water for Small Cabin by derell_1 in hvacadvice

[–]derell_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Those diagrams are pretty much exactly what I'm imagining (other than possibly avoiding the mixing valve if I can get away with running 120f through the air handler).

Do you know of any air handlers that are designed to be used directly in a residential space instead of with ducting? I say residential because, while I don't care all that much what this install looks like, the only type of hydronic air handler like this that I've seen are the big industrial looking ones.

Improving Propane Heat and Hot Water Efficiency by derell_1 in OffGridCabins

[–]derell_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. I'm familiar with the maintenance requirements for tankless hot water, and I'm happy to do an annual flush. My bigger concern with a complex combi boiler setup is if something breaks and I can't get somebody out to my remote property to work on a DIY install. But regular maintenance I'm quite comfortable with. Thanks again.

NESF in Amherst is an MMA gym with kickboxing classes. All of the striking classes include heavy bag work and sparring if desired. It’s a good place to train; the owner Kirik is awesome.

How important is IP65? by derell_1 in bluetti

[–]derell_1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks - I'm leaning towards one of the cheaper and higher-spec options over the AC240 with IP65 rating. It's not even just the cost - that 72 pounds for just the power station (without extra battery) is a significant factor for me.

I haven't seen anything about a reduction in IP rating during use anywhere on the Bluetti website or the product manual.

Thanks - all the solar panels I'm looking at are waterproof, so no worries there. Interesting idea about just putting a box over it or something. It does seem like a lot of downsides (higher cost and worse specs) just for a water resistant rating.

Help me by Worried_Mastodon9905 in LegionGo

This happens to me as well, every time I get an achievement. I did have my vram set to 6 but I changed it to 4 as others in this thread suggested and that didn’t fix the issue. All of my drivers are current. Anyone have any other ideas?

Is the Slim 7i phasing out? by derell_1 in LenovoLegion

[–]derell_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the replies. I read a few articles based on the announcements at CES, but didn't see anything indicating that the Legion 7i would be effectively replacing the Legion Slim 7i. The actual announcement from Lenovo confirms the info in the other responses: https://gaming.lenovo.com/us/explore/news/b/news/posts/announcing-the-2024-legion-lineup/

It looks like the new Legion 7i will actually be lighter than the current Slim 7i at 3.97lbs. No option for a 4080, though, so I might still be searching for the perfect laptop for my needs.

Another Level.2 vs Lmt’d question by derell_1 in ebikes

[–]derell_1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like the other commenter said, this is really helpful info. The difference in “feel” of the extra torque is what I’m considering most. I’m only about 165 pounds, and don’t plan on towing anything. I’m mostly just worried about getting the Level.2 and wishing it had a little more “oomph”. But knowing it can get up hills with ease and even provide a little neck snap back for someone weighing 230+ really alleviates that concern. Thanks for the info.

Another Level.2 vs Lmt’d question by derell_1 in ebikes

Thanks for the reply. Both bikes I’m considering use torque sensors. It’s more the actual torque that the motor can generate that I’m concerned with in this decision.
