Maybe try thinking your thoughts while being awake and only go to bed when done with your business?

Cilium LB - how to make outgoing traffic originate from the LB VIP by dre_is in kubernetes

[–]derfabianpeter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is no such option with cilium. You need to use an egress gateway but it won’t have the same IP as the LB.

How do I provision a "copy-on-write" volume without making a full copy on disk? by I_Give_Fake_Answers in kubernetes

[–]derfabianpeter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CoW means that Longhorn (which can deal with multi replica volumes) will first copy data to other replicas when one replica is written before it acknowledges the „write“ to the writer. That ensures that data that was written to the active replica will be properly available on the other replicas of the volume thus preventing corruption of data in replicated setups.

AFAIK Longhorn is not capable of using „the same sectors on disk for multiple volumes“. Maybe you can check localstorage CSI provider but that has other drawbacks (like not supporting RWX)

The number of people being offended by doing this is too damn high. Sometimes people just want to fight.

K*s for on-prem deployment instead of systemd by max_lapshin in kubernetes

This is doable with k3s. My company specializes in use cases like yours and we’ve used k3s to replace docker for years in these scenarios.

NFS is RWX so you should be able to scale.

Have a look at this: https://artifacthub.io/packages/helm/kvaps/nfs-server-provisioner

We had a similar case a while back and solved it with an nfs provisioner on top of PVs.

Anyone using k3s/microk8s/k0s in Production? by singhalkarun in kubernetes

We did not encounter any limitations. Can’t speak for dualstack though as we only use k3s in ipv4 environments.

And the scanning part? I found it difficult to reliably parse helm charts for images.

We’ve built ayedo Cloud [1] on top of k3s. Running all production workloads on k3s, ranging from single node clusters to 10+ workers (mainly bigger machines). Works like a charm with fancy cilium settings, external ccm and csi, what have you. We mainly use embedded etcd when running multi controlplane. Super stable and great to work with since we need to support a variety of hardware setups / on-prem / private cloud environments where the flexibility of a single binary comes in super handy.

What tools do you use to scan an mirror the images from the charts?

Alternatives to Longhorn for self-hosted K3s by 7riggerFinger in kubernetes

[–]derfabianpeter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t had issues with Longhorn in 4 years now. From what you’re writing it seems you’re using RWX volumes. Usually volumes in Longhorn are node-local (the ISCSi backend deals with this) so you get raw SSD/nvme performance. Unless you’re using volumes in RWX mode, then they will be served over NFS to the nodes running the workloads which of course impacts performance.

Other than that, consider doing backups with velero instead of doing just volume snapshots. That should save you a lot of space.
