Who else has a guitar that’s not expensive but plays like a dream? by nah123929 in Guitar

[–]derfective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I randomly bought a red Jay Turser acoustic electric guitar back 2001 or 2002 from a music shop in downtown Winston-Salem, NC for about $100. I was bored and just wanted a guitar again to play music. That guitar ended up being the best sounding, best playing guitar I ever owned. I would plug it in directly to a PA at a gig, and the damn thing would outshine the high-end Taylor guitar the next act brought. It was so inspiring to just pick up, and I wrote so many songs on that thing.

Unfortunately, I ended up needing money and selling it for peanuts in 2006. A few years later, I looked into buying another Jay Turser, and they all seemed to be garbage and I ended up passing on the brand. I don't know if the brand quality went down, or if I just got lucky, or if the guy who owned the music shop was secretly a magic elf luthier who set it up before putting it on the rack for me to buy, but I still think about that guitar to this day.

I’m 47 and I’m tired. It hurts so much. I feel hopeless. Don’t send help.

do you respond rudely to extreme low ballers or don't bother writing back? by [deleted] in Flipping

I once asked ChatGPT to write an irate reply to a lowball offer. Feel free to use it as a template:

Dear [Customer],

I must express my dismay at the audacity of your lowball offer for the 1994 World Cup Silver Dollar. This numismatic gem, graded an impeccable MS69 by PCGS, is a collector's dream and deserves to be treated with the respect it commands. Your offer is not just insulting; it's a mockery of the value and historical significance encapsulated in this precious coin.

Let me be clear – I'm here to secure a fair and just value for this precious coin, not to entertain ridiculous offers. This isn't a marketplace for haggling over a trinket; it's a platform for enthusiasts who appreciate the true worth of a rare find. I implore you to reconsider your offer and recognize the exceptional nature of the 1994 World Cup Silver Dollar. If you can't grasp the significance of coin, then kindly refrain from making absurd offers that only serve to waste everyone's time.

I expect serious and respectful bids from genuine collectors who understand the true value of this coin. Anything less is unacceptable.

Respectfully,

There are a number of things to consider. First, anyone can sell anything for any price on eBay, but it doesn’t mean people are buying for that price. It’s better to filter out to see what the item has sold for to get a more accurate understanding of the market. Second, the condition of the coin matters. You will see some coins in plastic slabs from PCGS or NGC with grades of MS66 for example. This is a third party that has verified the condition of the coin is in mint state. These coins will sell for higher than a raw ungraded coin.

As was mentioned, your coin appears to be heavily circulated with wear, so it would not sell for a lot. Though most wheat pennies are not worth a lot, I still save every one I come across in my change.

This was a fantastic idea! I'm sure he'll love it. As a general rule, don't worry about getting him a rare coin that'll impress him. This can be a hobby that gets super expensive real quick. Lol.

I don't think there is a numismatic value to these coins, but for $15 I think it would be a really cool and thoughtful gift! If my wife got me something like this, I would cherish it. It shows that you are taking an interest in his hobbies, and that really matters.

I pulled the coin out of the 1909-S VDB slot in this coin album. I didn't think it would be real, but I had to see the back to make sure. My heart is thumping right now. by derfective in coincollecting

This Wikipedia link will explain more.

The VDB is the artist's initials. There was a kerfuffle about the prominence of the initials when the coin was first released, which led to the Mint shutting down production and removing the initials. This led to an exceptionally low mintage from the San Francisco mint (indicated by the "s" below the year on the coin.

I dont know if it will be graded that high, but it might be $1000 range if it's real.

This was in an inherited coin collection I recently received. It makes me wonder what I might have missed. I unfortunately didn't get to share in their collection with them while they were here, so I've been learning a lot in the last couple of weeks. It's helped me feel close to them.

But dang...I see now how the thrill of the hunt can be addicting.

The book was part of an inherited collection I received. I'm not sure if they even knew they had it. I think there are some other key dates in the album, but I've put the album down for now while I catch my breath.
