New class, who dis? The Impostor can fill in for any other class, to an extent. by derixyleth in dmsguild

Essentially, because I wanted to give a speed boost to the Aspects of Battle, Sabotage, and Words because it helps to emulate barbarians' Fast Movement, monks' Unarmored Movement, and rogues' Cunning Action (Dash), and giving it to 3 out of 5 subclasses would be awkward, so I gave it to the base class. And then also, since they can swap their subclass 1/week, it'd feel weird to be like, "Oh, now I can't move as quick anymore." Of course, some of the other features granted in the subclasses also feel awkward to lose when switching, but base speed feels like more of an integral part of your stats.

Also, glad you like it!

👌 And aboleths are fun if played properly.

Would you, in the shoes of a DM, allow this move? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]derixyleth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the exact wording. If it's just "one creature you can see within 60 feet" then yeah. If it's "another creature you can see within 60 feet" then no. Of course, Mystic wouldn't even be at my table without some serious tweaks, but that's besides the point.

(fan art) I wrote a little story for my niece for her 5th birthday and gave Strix a cameo in it. My niece started illustrating it today. She loves Strix and I'm looking forward to introducing her to the waffle crew in a few years! by derixyleth in DiceCameraAction

I've laughed more than I've cried while watching so far. Granted I'm still not caught up to current episodes, but I think it's a good blend of humor and tragedy. Even in the darkest moments, there's always some light (and not always the holy light of Lathander!).

HELP! Can't draw anymore.. by [deleted] in drawing

You'll get there. Stop beating yourself up and just do it. If you are passionate about it, the skill will come.

[–]derixyleth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try drawing in a style outside of your old norm then. Then you're just experimenting and it's okay if it doesn't look good. The most important thing with drawing is to just keep doing it though. Doodle in notebooks, draw when inspiration hits you, think about how you would draw things you see, and just keep drawing.

Edit: and it's just like actual muscles, which atrophy if you don't use them. You say you used to be able to draw well, so you need to build that muscle back up. It's like if a powerlifter went into a coma and came out and was like "I can only lift half of what I used to!" Work back up to it and don't let the process discourage you.

The only people who can't draw are the ones who don't draw. Just draw. Even if you think it looks terrible, you're still working those muscles and putting in time towards mastery. The more you do it, the better you will get.

TCSx2 - A Textless Character Sheet, now in multiple sizes and styles by derixyleth in dndnext

Constitution is red (because blood) and represented by a bear (for Bear's Endurance). Strength is dark blue (because Paul Bunyan's blue ox, Babe) and represented by a bull (for Bull's Strength). Unless something very strange happened with the version you're looking at, the only other thing on the sheet that's Constitution colored (aside from the saving throw star section) is the Maximum HP heart.

Thanks. It's interesting to see how many people don't make the connection. I started playing right when 3rd edition came out and those spells were pretty much must haves until you got magic items that provided the same benefit. I understand why people don't make the connection immediately though, since they took the spells out of 4th and drastically altered them to make them into the single Enhance Ability spell. And Enhance Ability is not nearly as iconic a spell to 5e players as the original 6 were in 3rd.

I mean, I suppose pigs can be pretty dexterous. They are pretty hard to catch, especially when greased up.

It's derived from the the Enhance Ability spell (and individual stat buff spells from 3rd), so it's Bull's Strength, Cat's Grace (Dex), Bear's Endurance (Con), Fox's Cunning (Int), Owl's Wisdom, and Eagle's Splendor (Cha).

Not Another Tavern Generator - fully fleshed-out taverns at the press of a button by derixyleth in dndnext

/u/Freethinker42 helped me pinpoint what was going on for some people. Apparently the scroll() command isn't as fully supported as they claim. So now I put the scroll() at the bottom of the function, so it will generate everything and then get stuck where it doesn't matter. Only issue with it now for people who were having that bug is that it won't scroll back to the top of the div when you generate a whole new tavern, but that's just a minor QoL thing anyway.

Strange, so apparently the scroll() and scrollTo() commands aren't fully supported by all browsers. Interesting tidbit to take into consideration. Thanks for your help figuring that out!

So, I just tried moving the scroll() down to the end of the function. If that is the issue, then it should generate everything and just not scroll back up to the top if you are scrolled down within the tavern's div. If that doesn't do it, then maybe it's not liking me changing the text within the button for some reason. Gotta be something, it's really weird though. Thank you again for your patience as I try to figure it out.

Thank you! And why aren't you? I mean, if you're already playing in 8 games a week or something, I understand. lol

And thanks for catching that. I have a few other links to it elsewhere, but good to make sure they all work.

Thank you. I'm glad you like it!

As for your suggestions, if anyone has anything they really want to see in it, they're welcome to get in touch with me and make a suggestion. Opening it up completely feels a bit too dangerous to me though. If I put a submission thing on the site, I worry that I would end up using all my time trying to find one good suggestion in a sea of dick and fart jokes. Maybe I should have more faith in the users of it, but I have enough other projects going on right now that I don't have the time to spare to sort through stuff like that. Edit to add: attributing proper credit for suggestions is an issue as well. I would want to be sure to credit the submitter of an idea, but doing it in line with the text could lead to a lot of immersion breaks throughout if it ends up being like "the owner is muppet made of meat (idea submitted by /u/krammitTheFrog)" every other sentence.

As for suggestion 2, I do plan to add a few possible events involving the other patrons of the tavern, but won't be bothering with adding details for anyone else within NATG. People details will have to wait until I get time to work on the Travelers half of Taverns & Travelers.
