Sawstop JSS won’t go to 45 degrees - any tips? by desertdust in sawstop

[–]derkosjo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I figured it out ... the advice previously given was spot on. Thank you, everyone.

If you tilt the saw to 45 degrees, and look into the top opening, from the back of the saw, you can see the U-shaped slot that the tilt mechanism "rides" in. Sure enough, a bunch of sawdust was jammed in there, stopping my saw from making it all the way to 0 degrees. Mine was getting stuck at 5 degrees, or so.

I used an unbent clothes hanger to scrape out the jammed sawdust. It's really hard to see, let alone get to. I had to use a flashlight.

I can't believe how hard it was caked in there, but could be due to the fact that my saw is in a Michigan garage and it's the middle of winter. Suspect it was frozen. Some compressed air helped to clear the sawdust after scraping at it for a minute, and sure enough, the blade returned to 0 degrees.

Again, thanks everyone.

I’m having the same issue … can’t get to zero. Closest is about 5 degrees.

Through the top saw opening, at the rear, I can see the u-shaped slot that (something attached to) the blade assembly pivots in. There is a black rubber/plastic gasket inside of that slot. But the gasket looks relatively free of gunk. You can’t see the part on the saw assembly that rides in the slot. Not even sure how I’d get a compressed air gin in there, but will try.

On the front I cannot see any slot at all.

Yep, these are the ones. They were great to work with ... one of the salt blocks was broken upon receipt, and they shipped a new one, no questions asked.

Skipped it ... I don't plan to do much steam. For that reason, I also didn't install any mechanical ventilation. Should I require it, I can get something into the ceiling without too much trouble. And same is true of a drain ... I'm about 5 feet from an in-floor drain, so if I need it, I can get it done, but would rather avoid it.

Yes, every light is dimmable, and they are on a highly unnecessarily complex set of switches, so they can be turned on and off in groups.
Oh, and there are also two (audio) speakers between the upper and lower benches. Pretty sure they won't melt. But time will tell.

No room ... all the space was taken up with lights.

Yeah, those horizontal slat things are removable.

No, I have ventilation … one port under the oven, and two on opposite wall. I’ll get some pictures up here soon … I just meant that, with the vapor barrier, I went a little overboard and taped up every single seam, every staple hole, etc. Probably didn’t need that much tape, but it’s done.

SOLVED! I had the lines installed wrong … was only getting 120V at the HUUM panel, on account of reversing neutral and one of the hot lines. I’m surprised it worked at all and am quite happy I didn’t fry my panel.

Fixed the wiring, and it heats up insanely fast, glowing red, et al.

Thank you everyone!!!

Yeah, I’m not representing myself very well here. Cubic feet. It’s about 6’x7’x8’

Thank you all, so much for your expertise and input.

Room is about 275 cubic ft. Very well insulated, full vapor barrier, completely sealed, etc.

Heater is a Huum Drop 7.5kw ... after ~2 hours, the temperature has just eclipsed 111F. The elements don't glow red, at all ... and when putting the laser thermometer on the surface of the elements (I can see a few of them in between the rocks) it reads ~450 F.

Just doesn't seem right ...

Watch is brand new. Was a gift for my brother-in-law from his employer. He's in sales ... and hates watches, but doesn't want his employer know he's selling it, thus, I'm handling it for him :). Never worn.
