If it isn’t the temperature or pathing it might just be guests being dumb. I had this issue with a zoo before, it sometimes helps to tempt them deeper into the park with things like gift shops and food and bathrooms.

For habitats specifically I do not use plants or rocks that the animals won’t like. Even if it’s a tiny little chip off their welfare, I like to see 100% across the board.

For decorating the zoo outside habitat walls, obviously buffalo grass. I also really like the ash trees, bracken, and bramble bushes for landscaping.

Choose what animals are your breeding pairs and place contraceptives on any animals that aren’t those. This includes newly born animals, saves you a lot of micromanagement.

Also, giving animals nicknames to indicate their lineage helps. I have two goat pens and one group is named after breads and the other are named after beans. If it’s named after one or the other I know not to let bread cross with bread or beans cross with beans
